ONWARD AND UPWARD So we've seen the completion of the updated ScriptX2 engine, the implementation of vehicles and some great fun testing them out thanks to Digital Dreambuilder of Danaus, and to Pauline Blackswan of Blackswan. We've seen the first part of groups implemented, with the rest to come in degrees shortly as integration with the website component and some fundamental infrastructure upgrades are bought online. As we move through January, we're to see a number of things arrive such as the last of the components for Groups, a suite of new SSOs, a new region type, the beginnings of a concept called Virtual Micro Businesses (VMBs), and a new website for OL with more integrated functionality for residents and region owners alike. 2011 is also likely to bring us the new generation platform NxG to play with, meaning lots to learn and exciting new things to do and experiment with. I hear tell we may have at least 1 new DJ on the grid who's making noises about holding more dance parties. Stay tuned for confirmation and more info. From the vantage point of the top of the year, we can only see really good things in store as our grid reaches the end of its beta cycle and takes off as a solid alternative to SL. ______________________________ OL OUT THERE IN THE MEDIA Recently, a group began to meet inworld to discuss ways to increase knowledge of OL out there in the Virtual World community - to grow our resident numbers and to provide good reasons for people to stay and join our active little community. This has now become something of an action group as the topic is one close to the hearts of all OL residents. You can be part of these discussions by watching for meeting dates on the OracL Calendar, in the OracL Forum set up for the purpose, and on the OL Forum. If you have a dance or event venue on your region, please get in touch with Shai Khalifa or Cheops Forlife, as we'd love to include your region in our list of things to do. For example: A full soccer stadium was recently located - a game anyone? Cheops intends to install roller skating on Danaus, so I'm pretty sure RollerDerby will shortly follow (I hope she has damage turned off there as we don't have a hospital yet.) Abe has fishing on Borderwatch, and it will also be available on Phaedran from later this month, so if your recreation time is a little more passive, the competition for the most fish caught in a period may be on soon. One thing everyone can do immediately though is to post your images up there on Flickr or any other photo site, and make sure you tag and describe it with 'Openlife' and 'Virtual World'. This way it will appear on any google search. You'll also get images of your fantastic build seen. Along with this is to take part in the Forum discussions on the OL website and here on OracL. List your products in OracL Classifieds, and your shop on the OL Forum set up for the purpose. Add your events to the OracL Calendar, making sure you mention that it's in Openlife. Let's get our name out there. The grid is now highly stable and functional as well as fantastic, with regions now with scene flip, multiplying your available build potential by 2 at the moment, with 4 extra flips coming shortly (that will be a massive 225,000 prims of building for region owners - all for the price of a single region). So we can all work to get the word out, but that also means helping people who come to see what it's all about. As you may have read in the OL Forum, Sakai is going to create a Community Island which will be built by residents for the use of all residents. The idea is to provide a place new people can come and get their freebies, speak to mentors, find out what's going on & where to find things and even learn the basics or even advanced skills in tutorial sessions among a number of services. This will significantly reduce the frustration factor for newcomers and provide a single inworld place for a lot of the services much needed. Watch the Forums to stay abreast of all these developments, and don't feel shy about asking to be part of them. Everyone is welcome. ______________________________ WHATS GOING ON I will restrict mailings to Newsletters, if there is news we need to pass on to those who don't get to OL regularly, or if there are changes to the way OracL works. There is the option to Unsubscribe to these emails which should be at the bottom of any in future. You can chose to do this, and just keep up here on the website. It's up to you. Please note, I've yet to test this part of the function, so I ask that you bear with me if you get something after unsubscribing, and let me know so I can sort it out. ******
February's hunt will be themed on the Chinese New Year. Very appropriate given 3DX is located in Taiwan. This year is the Year of the Rabbit, so you can guess what will abound. Grimley Graves and his group of organisers will be keeping an eye on it, so any suggestions, praise and problems can be posted there for them to address. ****** January 22 will see VIRTUALLY LIVE EVENTS start up again, and throughout 2011 Surreal Numbers and his team will continue to bring the best live entertainment available to the OL community. I'm sure there will be many new and incredible builds done throughout the year. Particularly as we get more scenes to flip. If you have any suggestions, artist recommendations, requests to be included on the entertainer database, questions or issues you'd like to raise, you can do them here on the Forum or contact Surreal Numbers direct. He's always happy to discuss VLE with anyone. ______________________________ A NOTE FROM SHAI
Please remember that OracL is for you the OL residents. The articles posted here can be commented on by members, and in this way the bank of knowledge held in these pages will grow and be renewed. If you have anything you'd like to add as an article yourself, there's the Submit an Article link in the User Menu.
One thing that we will be introducing some time in the near future is paid advertising on OracL. This is separate to the Classifieds as it will be in the form of banner ads on the pages themselves. But more about this later along with the price list (which will be very very reasonable but will go toward supporting the website, its maintenance and its further development). Thank you for being a member of OracL and we - me, Eli and now Eldo - hope you enjoy and get use from what we offer you here. :) Shai |

EUREKA! The Grid-Wide Treasure Hunt The Christmas/New Year period saw the first of what is hoped will become a regular and ever-growing feature of OL. In response to the question "What can we do to get interesting and fun things for everyone?", a group of people headed by our resident Zombie, Grimley Graves, developed the prototype hunt which was held across 10 different regions. As each host provides a free item for collection with the next clue, it was a great way for people to see the grid, and collect some cool stuff. While the initial test hunt was only open for a limited time, planning is now underway for the next one scheduled for February, and which will run for a whole month. The next one will include mini-hunts on regions, more hints, more great prizes and maybe a surprise. Stay tuned to OracL, and take part in the Forum discussions here as we further expand both EUREKA and other projects we have in mind that include multiple regions across our grid. |

As Eureka starts to get firmly embedded on the "Things That HAVE To Be Done in OL" list for everyone, you can be part of the discussions around future plans and helping each other out with the current hunt on the
