Inworld 3DX meeting - 24 November 2010

[11:59]  Sakai Openlife: it's alright everything is pretty busy on this end anyway

[11:59]  Sakai Openlife: so I'll try to short

[11:59]  Sakai Openlife: we'll start doing coffee cup meetups soon too

[11:59]  Shai Khalifa: cool

[11:59]  Sakai Openlife: so that should be helpful with the hard time slot for many ppl

[11:59]  Sakai Openlife: although they won't be meets like this more quick review chats

[11:59]  Sakai Openlife: etc

[12:00]  Surreal Numbers: (when the script engine is done, i think will host an event on a giant version of the sakai steamroller. :)

[12:00]  Shai Khalifa: hehe that would be very cool

[12:00]  Sakai Openlife: but in the pipeline for this week

[12:00]  Sakai Openlife: is 0.8.1

[12:00]  Sakai Openlife: which will kick off the whole 0.8.1 series of updates

[12:00]  Shai Khalifa: oooo

[12:00]  Sakai Openlife: nd closes out 0.8.0.xxx stuff

[12:00]  Sakai Openlife: so in 0.8.1

[12:00]  Sakai Openlife: we have the groups re-release

[12:01]  Sakai Openlife: which is pretty kewl

[12:01]  Sakai Openlife: and a huge bunch of stuff around all the bits that tie into group

[12:01]  Shai Khalifa: and scripts?

[12:01]  Sakai Openlife: (like estate/land/perms etc)

[12:01]  Shai Khalifa: nice

[12:01]  Cheops Forlife: what will be exactly the functions of group?

[12:01]  Shai Khalifa: so that's all for this week?

[12:01]  Sakai Openlife: read up in the wiki or sl wiki even if you're not sure about how groups work

[12:02]  Cheops Forlife: oh same as in SL then?

[12:02]  Sakai Openlife: and we've got a new region health system coming in

[12:02]  Sakai Openlife: that replaces the exist DART thing

[12:02]  Sakai Openlife: so there'

[12:02]  Sakai Openlife: ll no longer be daily restaarts

[12:02]  Sakai Openlife: at a given set time

[12:02]  Shai Khalifa: oh

[12:02]  Sakai Openlife: instead the region will self manage and be monitored

[12:03]  Sakai Openlife: it will do it's own restarts etc

[12:03]  Sakai Openlife: when no one is in it

[12:03]  Sakai Openlife: to be more convenient

[12:03]  Shai Khalifa: can we still restart if needed?

[12:03]  Surreal Numbers: hi pauline

[12:03]  Cheops Forlife: hi Pauline

[12:03]  Shai Khalifa: hey Pauline

[12:03]  Sakai Openlife: so that will make life easier for those that fall in the existing restart time

[12:03]  Sakai Openlife: they won't have to worry about it doing it

[12:03]  Cheops Forlife: oh Surr you'll need to log off sometimes lol

[12:03]  Pauline Blackswan: hello

[12:03]  Shai Khalifa: hehe

[12:03]  Surreal Numbers: :P cheops

[12:04]  Sakai Openlife: if it really thinks it needs it it will log you off anyway

[12:04]  Shai Khalifa: with a notice?

[12:04]  Shai Khalifa: at least a couple of mins?

[12:04]  Surreal Numbers: (i like keeping my prims warm)

[12:04]  Sakai Openlife: e also introduce in 0.8.1 some map changes

[12:04]  Sakai Openlife: that should greatly accelerate the map loading

[12:04]  Sakai Openlife: if you've already loaded it once before

[12:04]  Sakai Openlife: and there's a change to llrezobject

[12:05]  Surreal Numbers: we will still have the option of web-based region restart?

[12:05]  Sakai Openlife: increasing the rez target params from 10m to 32m

[12:05]  Sakai Openlife: mx from the script root prim

[12:05]  Sakai Openlife: so that should give about a 1/4 region area to work with

[12:05]  Sakai Openlife: for script rez stuff

[12:05]  Shai Khalifa: cool

[12:05]  Shai Khalifa: I can think of a few people who'll like that one

[12:06]  Abraham Ferryhill: Hi

[12:06]  Surreal Numbers: hi abe

[12:06]  Shai Khalifa: means we can have dance machines like the Intan one in SL

[12:06]  Sakai Openlife: and last one that will arrive about a day or 2 after the 0.8.1 update is the mystery gift

[12:06]  Cheops Forlife: hi Abe

[12:06]  Sakai Openlife: that will enable for all users

[12:06]  Shai Khalifa: so what's happening with script engine?

[12:06]  Pauline Blackswan: hi Abe

[12:06]  Abraham Ferryhill: I have community issue to talk about Sakai.

[12:06]  Sakai Openlife: nothing

[12:07]  Sakai Openlife: i didn't mention anything about it

[12:07]  Shai Khalifa: 'cos about the only things holding the grid back are lack of groups and scripts not resetting on a restart

[12:07]  Sakai Openlife: And if all is well we'll follow up with the new region type shortly after

[12:07]  Sakai Openlife: nothing has changed there shai

[12:08]  Sakai Openlife: the board behind me shows the roadmap

[12:08]  Shai Khalifa: so the script engine is next after groups?

[12:08]  Sakai Openlife: from the looks of it the new region type will be very popular

[12:08]  Shai Khalifa: yah

[12:09]  Shai Khalifa: feedback and general talk is really positive on it

[12:09]  Shai Khalifa: especially if we get that selection of SSOs

[12:09]  Shai Khalifa: though an SSO: Prim.Rotate would be good

[12:09]  Shai Khalifa: then we could have doors and stuff

[12:10]  Cheops Forlife: yes as when people will discover they can't open doors of their house is a lite region ....

[12:10]  Abraham Ferryhill: Would SSO:s work when linked to multiprims?

[12:10]  Sakai Openlife: brb

[12:11]  Shai Khalifa: kk

[12:11]  Pauline Blackswan: while Sakai is away,.... what i have lost of the beginning?

[12:11]  Shai Khalifa: nothing really - started way late

[12:11]  Pauline Blackswan: ok

[12:11]  Shai Khalifa: had only just realy started when I tp'd you

[12:12]  Abraham Ferryhill: ah ok

General chat by group that didn’t have anything to do with the meeting while Sakai was afk.

[12:23]  Pauline Blackswan: ok the scene it's back at you Sakai

[12:23]  Abraham Ferryhill: yep

[12:23]  Shai Khalifa: so we get groups this week and that brings us to 0.8.1 is that right?

[12:24]  Sakai Openlife: I think i covered everything for this weeks activities

[12:24]  Sakai Openlife: new rollup 0.8.1

[12:24]  Sakai Openlife: re-introduces groups

[12:24]  Abraham Ferryhill: that's great

[12:24]  Sakai Openlife: the new health system

[12:24]  Grimley Graves: hey all

[12:24]  Shai Khalifa: g'day Grims

[12:24]  Sakai Openlife: so no more daily restart times

[12:24]  Abraham Ferryhill: hi grims

[12:24]  Cheops Forlife: hi Grim!

[12:24]  Surreal Numbers: hi grims!

[12:24]  Pauline Blackswan: hi Grim

[12:24]  Sakai Openlife: and that adjustment to the llRezObject paramater

[12:24]  Sakai Openlife: there's a bunch of fizes in it

[12:24]  Shai Khalifa: kk

[12:24]  Sakai Openlife: as usual

[12:25]  Sakai Openlife: but they will be in the release notes

[12:25]  Sakai Openlife: we dropped an update into login service

[12:25]  Sakai Openlife: a day or 2 ago

[12:25]  Sakai Openlife: that actually shaves about a second off login

[12:25]  Sakai Openlife: (doesn't sound big)

[12:25]  Sakai Openlife: but always nice to get in a little faster

[12:25]  Shai Khalifa: lol, any seconds are much appreciated

[12:25]  Shai Khalifa: the bigger inventory, the longer it takes

[12:26]  Grimley Graves: wow, looks like I missed a lot

[12:26]  Pauline Blackswan: about inventory,.... i noticed that the lib folder has dissappeared from my inv

[12:26]  Shai Khalifa: was quick rundown Grims

[12:26]  Cheops Forlife: yes somedays it is working good Sakai, sometimes my inv needs to wait again before being all loaded

[12:26]  Sakai Openlife: the library folder is definately gone

[12:26]  Shai Khalifa: oh you've go around to doing that at last

[12:27]  Sakai Openlife: e found that actually it wasn't the best thing to have in there

[12:27]  Pauline Blackswan: ok... np for me

[12:27]  Sakai Openlife: so instead

[12:27]  Sakai Openlife: we'll introduce a bunch of free items inc what 'was' in the library

[12:27]  Sakai Openlife: for everyone in a new free area

[12:27]  Shai Khalifa: cool

[12:27]  Pauline Blackswan: good

[12:27]  Sakai Openlife: adding in about 300 items

[12:27]  Shai Khalifa: and the textures we've all used etc, they all still ok?

[12:27]  Sakai Openlife: to everyones inventory

[12:27]  Abraham Ferryhill: great

[12:28]  Sakai Openlife: was turning out to be a litt more resource expense than we expected

[12:28]  Sakai Openlife: and unnecessary mostly

[12:28]  Cheops Forlife: there was a lace texture I used from there,

[12:28]  Sakai Openlife: *besides we wanted to drop that old stuff

[12:28]  Sakai Openlife: and of course the assets are still valid

[12:28]  Shai Khalifa: cool - I can upload another 300 textures - yeeehaa

[12:28]  Sakai Openlife: so if you reference them

[12:28]  Surreal Numbers: hi syn

[12:28]  Sakai Openlife: it's fine

[12:28]  Sakai Openlife: they still exist

[12:28]  Shai Khalifa: g'day Syn

[12:29]  Abraham Ferryhill: hi

[12:29]  Pauline Blackswan: yes what about texture if i used one from there and want to make a new object with the same textures?

[12:29]  Synclair Lavendel: Hi all, sorry I'm late

[12:29]  Cheops Forlife: hi Syn

[12:29]  Grimley Graves: hi Syn

[12:29]  Pauline Blackswan: i will find it where?

[12:29]  Sakai Openlife: eye drop it

[12:29]  Sakai Openlife: should work

[12:29]  Shai Khalifa: eye drop?

[12:30]  Sakai Openlife: (eye dropper in the texture selector)

[12:30]  Surreal Numbers: there's an eye dropper on texture selector

[12:30]  Surreal Numbers: never really works for me.

[12:30]  Sakai Openlife: and we'll get a new area up near the welcome area over the next few weeks

[12:30]  Sakai Openlife: yeah to use it

[12:30]  Shai Khalifa: me neither

[12:30]  Sakai Openlife: you must have perms

[12:30]  Sakai Openlife: over the texture you're eye dropping

[12:30]  Surreal Numbers: kk

[12:30]  Cheops Forlife: the texture browser makes my viewer crashing

[12:30]  Shai Khalifa: kk

[12:30]  Sakai Openlife: (otherwise you'd just get anything from anywhere)

[12:30]  Abraham Ferryhill: I see lol

[12:31]  Sakai Openlife: texture browser?

[12:31]  Cheops Forlife: yes

[12:31]  Sakai Openlife: are you on an old openlife?

[12:31]  Sakai Openlife: *I'd suggest updating

[12:31]  Cheops Forlife: no but french version because of windows

[12:31]  Sakai Openlife: that is quite troublesome that version

[12:31]  Cheops Forlife: I have not the old one!

[12:31]  Sakai Openlife: so definately should make the upgrade

[12:31]  Cheops Forlife: but still search is SL with french version

[12:32]  Clay Duport is Online

[12:32]  Cheops Forlife: and I didn't know texture browser was not the same for others here

[12:32]  Sakai Openlife: it's actually very broken

[12:32]  Sakai Openlife: as it's not supported anymore

[12:33]  Cheops Forlife: I didn't choose to have french version, it seems that windows makes that and a pity for the search if people still see the SL one

[12:33]  Sakai Openlife: most likely we'll end up blocking that version off our list soon

[12:33]  Shai Khalifa: I didn't use it when we did have it

[12:33]  Clay Duport is Offline

[12:33]  Cheops Forlife: oh great

[12:33]  Cheops Forlife: but how to be sure it is erased from french version? I have the last one!

[12:34]  Sakai Openlife: you really don't want to use a buggy version anyway

[12:34]  Sakai Openlife: just download the latest off the downloads page

[12:34]  Cheops Forlife: I did!

[12:34]  Cheops Forlife: I told Klee about that since a long time

[12:34]  Shai Khalifa: hiya Clay

[12:34]  Grimley Graves: hi Clay

[12:34]  Surreal Numbers: hi clay

[12:35]  Pauline Blackswan: hello Clay

[12:35]  Sakai Openlife: yeah but we don't update old viewers

[12:35]  Sakai Openlife: try the new one

[12:35]  Cheops Forlife: it seems I'd need english version of windows for having the same as yours here but I do'nt want!

[12:35]  Cheops Forlife: hi Clay

[12:35]  Clay Duport: hello all sorry off to a slow start

[12:35]  Grimley Graves: Cheops, can you fully delete the french version before downloading the new one?

[12:35]  Sakai Openlife: no they are all the same

[12:35]  Pauline Blackswan: sorry Sakai what do you mean for new one? what's the verison?

[12:35]  Sakai Openlife: 1 version does all languages

[12:35]  Shai Khalifa: R17 is the current

[12:36]  Cheops Forlife: I did that Grim!

[12:36]  Sakai Openlife: R17 in the downloads section from the date written in the section i think

[12:36]  Grimley Graves: hmm

[12:36]  Cheops Forlife: and I didn't choose the french version in preferences

[12:36]  Cheops Forlife: just it comes like that, in french

[12:36]  Surreal Numbers: (and you removed the folders too cheops when you deleted?)

[12:36]  Pauline Blackswan: 1.17.0?

[12:36]  Cheops Forlife: yes

[12:36]  Surreal Numbers: k

[12:36]  Sakai Openlife: Open Life 1.17.0 (336)

[12:37]  Pauline Blackswan: ok the one i use but i do not see the eye dropper

[12:37]  Sakai Openlife: that (336) is the number you want

[12:37]  Shai Khalifa: Sakai, any chance Klee can include an Uninstaller for Windows version of R18?

[12:37]  Surreal Numbers: cheops, open Help>About Openlife. what viewer is listed there?

[12:37]  Shai Khalifa: it seems to be an issue for windows people trying to remove all including hidden files when needed

[12:37]  Sakai Openlife: when you click select texture

[12:37]  Sakai Openlife: the eyedropper is next to your texture list

[12:38]  Shai Khalifa: yeah I saw that

[12:38]  Abraham Ferryhill: seems like right one?

[12:38]  Surreal Numbers: that's the latest viewer cheops

[12:38]  Shai Khalifa: wonder if any other French people have the same issue

[12:39]  Cheops Forlife: yes they have

[12:39]  Cheops Forlife: they tell me about th search

[12:39]  Shai Khalifa: what about Pants for German?

[12:39]  Cheops Forlife: why it is the SL one

[12:39]  Cheops Forlife: I think he got it in english

[12:39]  Shai Khalifa: that may account for some of the issue you have you know Cheops

[12:39]  Cheops Forlife: untill now only french have like me

[12:40]  Cheops Forlife: I was told it is because of windows

[12:40]  Shai Khalifa: I can almost see Sakai making note of that for Klee

[12:40]  Cheops Forlife: but not sure and I don't want to have it in french

[12:40]  Cheops Forlife: in english*

[12:40]  Cheops Forlife: (windows)

[12:41]  Grimley Graves: they are all still tied to the SL engine, for me I see my last position screen (in OL) while logging in to SL, and vice versa

[12:41]  Shai Khalifa: likewise

[12:41]  Cheops Forlife: oh?

[12:41]  Shai Khalifa: though I have allocated a different path for chat logs etc

[12:41]  Grimley Graves: and my password gets reset between grids as well

[12:41]  Shai Khalifa: Klee said something about that being a reall bugger he couldn't sort out

[12:42]  Cheops Forlife: I don't have that

[12:42]  Grimley Graves: yeah, logs are also mixed

[12:42]  Cheops Forlife: may be because not the same name

[12:42]  Grimley Graves: could be

[12:42]  Synclair Lavendel: Mine are completely separate, but I use Imprudence for SL

[12:42]  Shai Khalifa: I have different password for SL too and have to change when I want to come back to OL

[12:42]  Cheops Forlife: I'm cheops box in SL

[12:42]  Clay Duport: im listeningnot ignoring "not awake"

[12:43]  Shai Khalifa: I use Klee's viewr for SL

[12:43]  Shai Khalifa: lol, I'm nearly asleep

[12:43]  Grimley Graves: *hands Clay a strong coffee*

[12:43]  Clay Duport: ty grim

[12:43]  Sakai Openlife: so were there any Q's

[12:43]  Sakai Openlife: I needed to cover

[12:43]  Sakai Openlife: *I've been a bit pressed on time today)

[12:43]  Cheops Forlife: yes lost work....

[12:43]  Sakai Openlife: but of course everyone is welcome to stay and chat

[12:44]  Clay Duport: thanks sakai

[12:44]  Shai Khalifa: with the lack of daily restart, that means scripts will continue to work unless the region feels it needs a restart, or unless we do it right?

[12:44]  Cheops Forlife: some of my work of yersterday lost afain today

[12:44]  Clay Duport: il save my questions for when im awake :)

[12:44]  Grimley Graves: lost Cheops?

[12:44]  Sakai Openlife: the region will restart whenever it feels necessary

[12:44]  Grimley Graves: disappeared?

[12:44]  Cheops Forlife: yes, texturing or builts

[12:44]  Sakai Openlife: there are new script updates coming anyways

[12:44]  Cheops Forlife: randomly

[12:45]  Grimley Graves: ugh, tried turning scripts off?

[12:45]  Clay Duport: when will it be safe to run scripts again

[12:45]  Shai Khalifa: ok, good, Eli's reset scripts I'll only need to set going every now and again

[12:45]  Sakai Openlife: you can run them now if you wish

[12:45]  Shai Khalifa: scripts run ok, it's just they don't reset after a restart

[12:45]  Shai Khalifa: most of them anyway

[12:46]  Clay Duport: ok

[12:46]  Sakai Openlife: basically the simple suggestion from us is if it errors don't use it yet

[12:46]  Shai Khalifa: some do though

[12:46]  Sakai Openlife: if not

[12:46]  Sakai Openlife: feel free

[12:46]  Surreal Numbers: i'm concerned the region will decide to do a restart right in the middle of an event

[12:46]  Sakai Openlife: why would it do that?

[12:46]  Surreal Numbers: no idea.

[12:46]  Sakai Openlife: me too

[12:47]  Cheops Forlife: lol

[12:47]  Abraham Ferryhill: So what's the definition to need of restart then?

[12:47]  Shai Khalifa: Sakai you said it would kick everyone if he has too, wil there be a notice?

[12:47]  Sakai Openlife: but i don't think you need to be concerned about it ;)

[12:47]  Grimley Graves: shouldn't, unless there is an error

[12:47]  Sakai Openlife: is there notice now?

[12:47]  Sakai Openlife: (yes)

[12:47]  Sakai Openlife: so of course

[12:47]  Sakai Openlife: ㋡

[12:47]  Sakai Openlife: we didn't kill everything in this

[12:47]  Sakai Openlife: we just improved the method

[12:47]  Surreal Numbers: the last two weeks during events we were all kicked off and no apparent error occurred. no idea why that happened

[12:48]  Sakai Openlife: with a better system to keep it going

[12:48]  Sakai Openlife: I can't tell you surreal

[12:48]  Shai Khalifa: yeah, that's what I was just htinking Surreal

[12:48]  Sakai Openlife: but would have been great if i knew

[12:48]  Sakai Openlife: I could have looked it up

[12:48]  Grimley Graves: someone probably put a shovel into a fiber line somewhere

[12:48]  Sakai Openlife: if you get somthing like that again let me know

[12:48]  Surreal Numbers: k

[12:48]  Shai Khalifa: may be an idea to check the logs after each VLE event Sakai

[12:48]  Grimley Graves: had to rerout

[12:48]  Shai Khalifa: it's the biggest gathering by far any time on the grid

[12:49]  Shai Khalifa: and it happens regularly

[12:49]  Abraham Ferryhill: I have met that behaviour couple times too, seems like it's 0.8 feature?

[12:49]  Shai Khalifa: so easy to monitor

[12:49]  Sakai Openlife: I understand but it is a lot for us

[12:49]  Sakai Openlife: to run through thousands of lines of logs

[12:49]  Sakai Openlife: (hours)

[12:49]  Sakai Openlife: as per usual

[12:49]  Surreal Numbers: can the Spider be trained to review logs?

[12:49]  Shai Khalifa: it's a good test environment for you though

[12:49]  Sakai Openlife: best is to just let us know when it happenned

[12:49]  Grimley Graves: would it help to have the exact time of occurance?

[12:49]  Sakai Openlife: and we'll go back and take a look

[12:50]  Shai Khalifa: happens each week at the moment at some stage, usually late

[12:50]  Surreal Numbers: yep.

[12:50]  Cheops Forlife: it was between 8.30 PM and 10

[12:50]  Sakai Openlife: so next time just let us know

[12:50]  Grimley Graves: lol, trained spider

[12:50]  Surreal Numbers: usually i'm so busy resetting 36 scripts in the dance machines i dont have time to make notes

[12:50]  Sakai Openlife: when the time you think an issue occurs and that's enough

[12:50]  Shai Khalifa: maybe me and Cheops and Grims can try to take that note

[12:50]  Cheops Forlife: sure

[12:50]  Grimley Graves: we can note it for you Surr

[12:51]  Surreal Numbers: kk thanks. more eyes on it the better the verification

[12:51]  Sakai Openlife: we're always picking items up all the time

[12:51]  Sakai Openlife: and adding them into development tasks

[12:51]  Sakai Openlife: so always best to just let us know what when where and we can look it up

[12:51]  Shai Khalifa: kk

[12:51]  Sakai Openlife: it may already be something we've encountered elsewhere

[12:52]  Grimley Graves: will do

[12:52]  Grimley Graves: (now that we are looking it'll never happen again)

[12:52]  Sakai Openlife: in general it's the user feedback that leads us to the interesting ones

[12:52]  Surreal Numbers: lol

[12:52]  Shai Khalifa: lol fingers crossed Grims

[12:52]  Pauline Blackswan: ok guys,.... my lunch is getting cold

[12:52]  Surreal Numbers: eat wekk pauline!

[12:53]  Pauline Blackswan: see you and thanks

[12:53]  Surreal Numbers: well*

[12:53]  Clay Duport: nuke it pauline

[12:53]  Cheops Forlife: BOn appetit Pauline

[12:53]  Shai Khalifa: hehe, and my bed's looking increasingly inviting

[12:53]  Sakai Openlife: so i hate toe run so fast on these meets

[12:53]  Sakai Openlife: and I've been so brief today

[12:53]  Sakai Openlife: *it's just quite busy in here atm

[12:53]  Sakai Openlife: and I'm getting pulled 4 ways

[12:53]  Shai Khalifa: lol less work for me gtting the log up on OracL

[12:53]  Surreal Numbers: np. thanks for the time

[12:53]  Shai Khalifa: you want to change the meets to fortnightly?

[12:53]  Clay Duport: thanks sakai

[12:53]  Sakai Openlife: no

[12:53]  Shai Khalifa: kk

[12:54]  Cheops Forlife: ok but we could feel what is hot Sakai, so thanks a lot

[12:54]  Sakai Openlife: we'll kick off the weekly coffee cups probably from next week in addition to these

[12:54]  Shai Khalifa: kk

[12:54]  Sakai Openlife: ㋡ enjoy everyone!

[12:54]  Shai Khalifa: thanks for your time mate

[12:54]  Shai Khalifa: catchya

[12:54]  Sakai Openlife: thanks for coming too

[12:54]  Cheops Forlife: bye!

[12:54]  Clay Duport: take care sakai

[12:54]  Grimley Graves: cool, a recap or just informal chat?

[12:54]  Shai Khalifa: say Hi to the team
