Copy of the notecard given to Sakai during the meeting outlining issues raised in the forum
Complete log of all rollup information given by Sakai since the update was first notified in July (a good way to see the scope of the update and how things have been approached by 3DX). I will keep this page updated as further rollups are done.
Another update feedback meeting. Topics included: greendots on the map; system message in IM; hot locations that are clickable; hooks, locks & data retrieval; more rollups; vehicle rollup; script issues; SSOs; missing textures; gestures & login issues; estate tools; groups; vehicles.
The region unexpectedly restarted during the meeting and therefore the chat log is in two parts, the start supplied by Pantaiputah Korobase and the end by Elieluen Yareah.
This was a fairly informal post-update meeting to discuss what had been happening with the .8 update and what would be happening over the next week or so. It also included discussion about what interaction users would like to see with the web in terms of OL/RL communication, as well as what we may see in further updates.
During the meeting there were 2 earthquakes in Taiwan which added a bit of extra shake to the meeting, and at the end chat lag ground the meeting to a halt ending in the region locking up.
Focus was on the upcoming .8 update and R18 viewer. Sakai also showed photos of the 3DX offices and the view of Taipei from there. We now know what Sakai's desk looks like and where the coffee is in relation to it.
Update info included: physics improvements, more LSL particularly for vehicles, improvements in the way the region and the viewer received info, improvements in the way region crossing is handled, significant re-writes in groups enabling implementation of functionality, re-writes in a number of other aspects, improvements in Search, improvements in the way avatars are rendered to the world and a number of other things ....
26 June 2010
This meeting was held in 2 parts. The first on the new generation platform (NxG - next generation), and the second on the current platform. There are in fact 4 files associated with this meeting log, as I have separated the 2 meetings, included a page of the picturespresented by Sakai, and provided a detailed summary of the audio chat response Sakai gave to the questions given to him in notecard form for part 2.
Sakai presented in audio for this meeting and the audience was given far more detail than previous meetings. Points included the Points system, Subscriptions to go alongside the normal Credits exchange, Membership categories, avatar skeleton (see the first pic), terrain management and texturing, parcels/land portions, the use of lights and light (and the dark spaces in between), God rays (no didn't get all egotistical on us - this is just how on sunset the sun's rays will shine from above), objects and their behaviour, explicit material and behaviour, and he even talked about the weather.
A transcription of the audio is available here - it can also be downloaded as a pdf.
The audio file is available from an external site. You will need to click the "Free User" button on the right (no need to register), wait for the countdown, and download the file.
A notecard had been prepared ahead of this part of the meeting with questions relating to region performance and how objects and scripts affect it. Sakai chose to return to voice to answer these and did so in detail. A copy of the summary of the audio is available from here, and is recommended reading for anyone who creates anything in OL - but in particular to all region owners.
Current platform region discussion summary
This meeting was essentially one relating to the new generation platform, however some issues were raised about the existing one, and Sakai asked the question "What do you least like about the current platform" to which numerous things were listed. The meeting started prior to Sakai's arrival as he was late, and therefore the first part of the chatlog is of that pre-meeting resident meeting.
The subsequent entire meeting makes for a very long but highly informative chat log with too many issues to mention here in summary. The next meeting will be next week, but an hour later (commencing 10pm UTC).
General what's happened meeting including new LSL implementations, the new Friends web function etc. Issues currently around the grid - recurring prims, border crossings and how to make them so you don't fall through a connecting prim, tp failures found to be caused by some unimplemented scripting functions on worn items, new ScriptX scripting engine being implemented with the next update, re-written physics set to correct bounce etc in coming update, support for vehicles also at same time, big updates to group functions.
Possibility of an SSO to manage who can build on a region, new starting avatars coming, Search being re-thought.
