I've registered an account and downloaded the client, but can't log into the grid, what's wrong?
Can I import my builds from other grids to OL?
Why is my sculpty phantom even though I did not set it to be?
Why doesn’t my script work even though I’ve had it tested. I’m in the public sandbox?
Q: I've registered an account and downloaded the client, but can't log into the grid, what's wrong?
A: OL is unlike SL - when you register an account with OL, this one account is what you use to manage all your avatars. Avatars are created within the account and can each have their own login (avatar name) and password if you choose. For more on this see the article Logging into OL for the first time.
Q: Can I import my builds from other grids to OL?
A: Yes you can. But you have to be the owner & creator of not only the item, but all of its component parts (scripts, textures etc). It can only be done by using the most recent version of Second Inventory.
OL does not allow other viewers such as Meerkat or other XML backup programs in order to protect the property rights of creators.
Q: Why is my sculpty phantom even though I did not set it to be?
A: If your sculpty map has an alpha layer over the map itself (a method used by sculpty map creators to protect their map from being copied) the sculpty itself will default to phantom. There is no current workaround for this other than the usual one used on grids where the sculpty has to be set to phantom to avoid the bounding box. (put an invisible normal prim on the surface).
Q: Why doesn’t my script work even though I’ve had it tested. I’m in the public sandbox?
A: The public sandbox regions have scripting turned off so that rogue scripts cannot crash the region to the detriment of its users. You may also find that many regions on the grid also have it off to avoid the attentions of griefers, or the effects of visits
from people wearing un-tested AOs or other un-tested attachments.
Q: How do I contact my friends when they're not on my Friends list, and Search doesn't allow me to find them?
A: There are several ways you can get in touch with people all related to getting access to their Profile from which you can Add Friend, IM or send an item:
- Edit one of their products or something they own (both creator and owner's names provide access to their Profile.
- Right click on their name in a Chat record or group IM
- Join a group and get your friend to. Go to the Group and click Info then go to the tab for Members. In the list of members you can see who is online and who's not (also what date they were last online). You can double click on a member's name and their Profile will come up. This is also a way to contact people not on your friends list, but who you know or think maybe are members of a group.
- Build yourself a letterbox and ask people to leave notecards in it. You can access their profile from the Properties of their notecard. As you can also embed textures and landmarks in OL notecards, these can also be transfered this way (note that embedding other notecards does NOT work in OL). The Drop Box script is found in the Script Library and is OL tested.
