I'll be at these in spirit Abe - unless the cat or the weather has me awake an unable to go back to sleep in the wee small hours of the morning...

Maybe some day you can run one in the European morning on a weekend (at a reasonable hour of course), then I can get there?

lol - hope they go well for you my friend. Remember that "from little things, big things grow" so if your gatherings are small to start with - it's still a start.

:)

I'll host small montly roleplaying events called tavern evenings earlier in saturday so you can get to VLE events too. Because real life stuff and updates we'll start later in september. The name of game is open roleplaying and place to gather I'll write small local events and see if I can persuade Grims to come down here so you can smite him :) In short you can carry out your own roleplaying with your friends and interact with others too.

-Our sim is combatible with elves. They might be frowned but that's just it.

-What's capped here is power levels of characters. Just for sake of avoiding powergaming. I think this rules out dragons in most cases.

-And yes you can come if you wouldn't be terribly interested in high advetures or such. Playing out walk-ons or supportive roles is actually a great favour to others and fun way to see what's going on.

The area consists two distinct villages from opposite kingdoms. They are in peace but have their own internal problems. The world is low fantasy or well dressed high fantasy allowing elves to arrive to forest with some sort of magical rift. (Just don't tell about it to locals, they might think you have had too many beers.)

Other things I'm about to offer is our own group meetings and solo guests for people interested. Those will be informed later on. Written character is one thing that I actually do too.

Times:

18.sep 6pm (starting out about 5pm would be good later, no?)

16.oct "

13.nov "

11.dec "

Logins were so hard that I thought it would be better to keep the meeting when updates are set. Count one or two weeks possibly. Thought you can use that time to build up a character.

Roleplaying tutorial: Tavernevening (My character)
Sunday 22.aug, 6PM UTC sharp
Host: Abraham Ferryhill
Place: Borderwatch, Red drake inn.

I'm starting a serie of what Grims calls as 'solo guests'. That means small roleplaying events which will introduce some of aspects of the roleplaying for both chat and visual gaming. These will be making foundation for later tavern evenings.

Absolutely no prior experiences from any form of roleplaying is required. I'm searching 4-6 people interested to participate  for about 2-3 hours. If we'll get past that time we can continue
later. If there's more coming that fits to place I can keep  second event later but I'll need to ask enrollments before the event. Send private messages in IM/Oracl if you are interested.

The place and setting will be in my land because it's d&d and Conan The barbarian inspired fantasy world that  no-one knows anything about - no one can actully outsmart others.
I told earlier that the World of Rajakatse is a low fantasy.  Well in fact it's a well masked high fantasy. We have all the fantasy architypes present, exception of few things like 'orcs' or
'truth spells'. Dwarves are either from elsewhere or short humans or elves living in caves. Magic is actually there but doesn't  show in streetview.

---
I'm going to give you a job to do before event:
Primary task is to make you a roleplaying character.

-Think about what concepts and architypes would appeal to you. Architypes are classical figures from literature, movies etc...

-Every person has a name so you'll need to invent one for your character too. For example person not wanting to get into fight probably  shouldn't think about warrior role and go for talking
intellectual instead.

-(Secondary) You should check your inventory for attachments and clothes that would fit to your character.  Things with glow are considered magical so those wouldn't  appeal to everyone. (Theres some props free in Borderwatch shopping area. IM me if you need something specific.)

What is actually capped here is the power level. I have kind request from our organization "please don't  start plague which will kill everyone in this world." ;) (Example: For D&D terms the level cap is about 5 so no roality here).

As for character. We'll start to fill up the character together with 20 questions.

-If you have time you can think about pros and cons of your character. Usually there's equal disadvantange for every advantage (Or many small disadvantages for one major advantage). Same rule applies with assets and makes your character plausible.

You character can be from this world or outside of it. We have lots of empty space to fill. Barbarian tribes that we don't  actually know anything about. With same logic elves can be from
here or arrived earlier from some other world with means of  magical rift (Teaches you to read wizards spellscrolls when you're drunk.)

We'll go through your ideas and maybe even get to roleplaying after that :))

[2010/08/15 19:39] Abraham Ferryhill:PvP view :)

[2010/08/15 19:39] Abraham Ferryhill:What's your idea Grims?

[2010/08/15 19:39] Grimley Graves: myidea is not to give Oak sharp objects :)

[2010/08/15 19:39] PantaiputihKorobase: this is RP?

[2010/08/15 19:39] Oak Hazelnut: lool

[2010/08/15 19:39] Grimley Graves:basically RP is a group activity...

[2010/08/15 19:40] Lion Ewry isOffline

[2010/08/15 19:40] Grimley Graves:it's telling a story by taking the role of a character in thatstory...

[2010/08/15 19:40] Grimley Graves: thestoryline is malleable, it can change as the players interact

[2010/08/15 19:41] Oak Hazelnut: oohgrim you been reading up

[2010/08/15 19:41] Grimley Graves:sort of like improvisational theater

[2010/08/15 19:41] PantaiputihKorobase: yep, some framework and first ruels and then it can develop

[2010/08/15 19:41] Grimley Graves:lol, I've been a LARPer for almost 30 years now

[2010/08/15 19:41] Abraham Ferryhill:That's why you're last ;)

[2010/08/15 19:41] PantaiputihKorobase: what is a a larper?

[2010/08/15 19:42] PantaiputihKorobase: long acting RP?

[2010/08/15 19:42] Abraham Ferryhill:I'll go into LARP in this.

[2010/08/15 19:42] Abraham Ferryhill:larp

[2010/08/15 19:42] Abraham Ferryhill:This is picture I wanted to show you to all :)

[2010/08/15 19:42] Grimley Graves:yeah, you have a basic set of rules, guidelines on how to play combatand magic for example

[2010/08/15 19:42] PantaiputihKorobase: ok, got that :-)

[2010/08/15 19:42] Abraham Ferryhill:Yes that's true :)

[2010/08/15 19:42] Abraham Ferryhill:I'll tell about scandinavic style later on but first definition ofroleplay:

[2010/08/15 19:42] Abraham Ferryhill:My definition of roleplaying is a 'interactive story with imiginativecharacters where participant actually takes a fictive role at somepoint.'

[2010/08/15 19:43] Grimley Graves:LOL, oh god thats too close for comfort

[2010/08/15 19:43] Oak Hazelnut: lol

[2010/08/15 19:43] Abraham Ferryhill:Roleplaying might be taking role of some sort of monster piggy...

[2010/08/15 19:43] Oak Hazelnut: true

[2010/08/15 19:43] Abraham Ferryhill:But in any terms, means roleplaying is a first of all: state of mind.

[2010/08/15 19:44] Abraham Ferryhill:Can you tell me things that came close but are not roleplaying?

[2010/08/15 19:44] Abraham Ferryhill:In strict sense.

[2010/08/15 19:44] PantaiputihKorobase: umm, real life?

[2010/08/15 19:44] Oak Hazelnut: lool

[2010/08/15 19:44] Oak Hazelnut: welltheres amny things

[2010/08/15 19:44] PantaiputihKorobase: we all play roles in RL too in some way

[2010/08/15 19:45] Oak Hazelnut:action films are one

[2010/08/15 19:45] Oak Hazelnut:internet is another

[2010/08/15 19:45] PantaiputihKorobase: ello Tiny

[2010/08/15 19:45] Abraham Ferryhill:yes you're right.

[2010/08/15 19:45] Abraham Ferryhill:Welcome!

[2010/08/15 19:45] Oak Hazelnut:anything tht involves non comformed character is role play

[2010/08/15 19:45] Grimley Graves: hiTiny

[2010/08/15 19:45] Oak Hazelnut: atlast

[2010/08/15 19:45] Oak Hazelnut: whereyou been tiny

[2010/08/15 19:45] Abraham Ferryhill:quite true oak

[2010/08/15 19:45] Abraham Ferryhill:Well one thing comes to my mind SCA:

[2010/08/15 19:46] Oak Hazelnut:wheres tiny

[2010/08/15 19:46] Tiny Elfin2: hieverzone

[2010/08/15 19:46] Oak Hazelnut: cantseeher

[2010/08/15 19:46] Abraham Ferryhill:You can dress to 17th century dress and still not being roleplaying.

[2010/08/15 19:46] Tiny Elfin2:logging in and teleporting is borked

[2010/08/15 19:46] Abraham Ferryhill:Told you :)

[2010/08/15 19:46] Grimley Graves:yeah, from what I know of it it's a loose definition of RP

[2010/08/15 19:46] Oak Hazelnut: yep iknow took us all ages to log in

[2010/08/15 19:46] Abraham Ferryhill:wo things you need: role and play

[2010/08/15 19:46] Abraham Ferryhill:two

[2010/08/15 19:47] Oak Hazelnut: tinysit down

[2010/08/15 19:47] Grimley Graves:altho some SCAers I know live their "roles" 24/7

[2010/08/15 19:47] Abraham Ferryhill:That might be metarole then.

[2010/08/15 19:47] Abraham Ferryhill:Role could be historical person but when you're improvising and nottelling lines like in theatre you're roleplaying.

[2010/08/15 19:47] Oak Hazelnut: yesactors role paly

[2010/08/15 19:47] Cheops Forlife isOnline

[2010/08/15 19:48] Grimley Graves:yeah, improv... the hardest style of acting

[2010/08/15 19:48] Abraham Ferryhill:Actually both yes and no.

[2010/08/15 19:48] Oak Hazelnut: mm

[2010/08/15 19:48] Abraham Ferryhill:Yes actors do roleplay but they are not actually encouraged it.

[2010/08/15 19:48] Oak Hazelnut: true

[2010/08/15 19:48] PantaiputihKorobase: as they just repeat the words written by someone

[2010/08/15 19:48] Abraham Ferryhill:yes, and in defintion that's not roleplaying

[2010/08/15 19:48] Grimley Graves:yes, very scripted

[2010/08/15 19:49] Abraham Ferryhill:but you can get to role through written things

[2010/08/15 19:49] Oak Hazelnut: ifihit grim with acorn thats role play lool

[2010/08/15 19:49] Grimley Graves: nowtake a character and put them in a play they dont know... thats RP

[2010/08/15 19:49] Tiny Elfin2: um no

[2010/08/15 19:49] Tiny Elfin2: thatsgriefing, and zoull be beheaded here

[2010/08/15 19:49] Oak Hazelnut: lool

[2010/08/15 19:49] Tiny Elfin2: thatsroleplaz

[2010/08/15 19:49] Abraham Ferryhill:Grim told before about roleplaying being social. That's true

[2010/08/15 19:49] Abraham Ferryhill:Roleplaying games are social hobby. Though there's no audience inroleplaying games. This is true in live action too. The play is forparticipants only. That means even terribly shy people can try it.Having audience folloing roleplay would cause some people to freezewhich is not fun.

[2010/08/15 19:49] PantaiputihKorobase: lol, tiny, you have your keyboards settigns Asian orAmerican, lol

[2010/08/15 19:49] Abraham Ferryhill:Actually that happened to us once.

[2010/08/15 19:50] Grimley Graves: butstay out of the way

[2010/08/15 19:50] Oak Hazelnut: whatgroup

[2010/08/15 19:51] Oak Hazelnut: oh

[2010/08/15 19:51] Abraham Ferryhill:That's why acual castles are bad places to live roleplay

[2010/08/15 19:51] PantaiputihKorobase: basically, VWs are roleplaying words too, I guess, may benot on the strict sense, but at least you chose a character and playit

[2010/08/15 19:51] Abraham Ferryhill:We have lots of woods to hide in.

[2010/08/15 19:51] Oak Hazelnut: elfsare rp lol

[2010/08/15 19:51] Oak Hazelnut: wehide behind tinylool

[2010/08/15 19:52] PantaiputihKorobase: as an example

[2010/08/15 19:52] PantaiputihKorobase: I mean, how can I be sure Grims is not playing a role inhere?

[2010/08/15 19:52] Oak Hazelnut: youcant

[2010/08/15 19:52] Grimley Graves:well, VW's have that opportunity, but mostly people play themselves

[2010/08/15 19:52] Oak Hazelnut: whatsvws a car

[2010/08/15 19:52] PantaiputihKorobase: well, yep, right, Grims, mostly

[2010/08/15 19:52] Abraham Ferryhill:Ok, how about next issue then. Is there winners in RP?

[2010/08/15 19:52] Oak Hazelnut: yes

[2010/08/15 19:52] Oak Hazelnut: theones who survive lol

[2010/08/15 19:52] PantaiputihKorobase: depends on the setting

[2010/08/15 19:52] Grimley Graves:yeah, those that have fun :)

[2010/08/15 19:53] PantaiputihKorobase: no need to have them, but can have them

[2010/08/15 19:53] Abraham Ferryhill:true all

[2010/08/15 19:53] Abraham Ferryhill:There's no winners in roleplaying games. We have some words asleftovers from boardgames like calling live action events to 'games'or organizator as 'gamemaster.' But in definition you can't ever winroleplaying game or live roleplaying game. I think that idea waskilled somewhere in the 80s -

you can measure social values in pointsor gold collected. However you can excell in scenario. To Apollo 13their scenario was to return back to Earth and they did just that. However roleplayer might just want to take role of criminal who'sgoing to be hanged in the morning. Best experiences do come fromsituations when you're not actually winning anything.

[2010/08/15 19:53] PantaiputihKorobase: (even losers can win)

[2010/08/15 19:53] Oak Hazelnut: oh

[2010/08/15 19:53] Abraham Ferryhill:loosing is fun :)

[2010/08/15 19:53] Grimley Graves:some of our games have been that way

[2010/08/15 19:53] Grimley Graves:only way to win is to lose

[2010/08/15 19:54] PantaiputihKorobase: lol

[2010/08/15 19:54] Oak Hazelnut: what

[2010/08/15 19:54] Grimley Graves:sacrifice your characters life to save the kingdom

[2010/08/15 19:54] Abraham Ferryhill:or be the poor guy who gets beheaded :)

[2010/08/15 19:54] PantaiputihKorobase: I assume, there are also settings with RP where there is noneed to talk about losing or winning, but just to interact

[2010/08/15 19:55] Oak Hazelnut: yep

[2010/08/15 19:55] PantaiputihKorobase: and may be learn

[2010/08/15 19:55] Abraham Ferryhill:Depends the scenario.

[2010/08/15 19:55] PantaiputihKorobase: sure

[2010/08/15 19:55] Grimley Graves:yeah, we call those "tavern games" mostly set in town barsor meeting halls

[2010/08/15 19:55] Abraham Ferryhill:We do have tavern games

[2010/08/15 19:55] Grimley Graves: noreal "goal" just interaction

[2010/08/15 19:56] Abraham Ferryhill:And the revard is social aways.

[2010/08/15 19:56] Grimley Graves:most of ours are lore giving games for the bigger games

[2010/08/15 19:56] Abraham Ferryhill:I'll show a picture in the wall.

[2010/08/15 19:56] Abraham Ferryhill:Guess who's going to be a dog meat? ;)

[2010/08/15 19:56] Oak Hazelnut: lo

[2010/08/15 19:57] Grimley Graves:"lore" being important clues and info given to playersbefore the game begins

[2010/08/15 19:57] Oak Hazelnut: yep

[2010/08/15 19:57] Abraham Ferryhill:Yes, the material is usually written down.

[2010/08/15 19:57] PantaiputihKorobase: cant see the texture

[2010/08/15 19:57] Grimley Graves: thetreasure map, the cryptic note, etc

[2010/08/15 19:57] PantaiputihKorobase accepted your inventory offer.

[2010/08/15 19:58] Grimley Graves: meeither, bad grid day

[2010/08/15 20:00] Abraham Ferryhill:Yeah, I stroke two soldiers down and had one hit. I was holding mywonded side when pirest comes and heals those two.

[2010/08/15 20:00] Tiny Elfin2: befair two are wemon with out viyable weapons

[2010/08/15 20:01] Grimley Graves:magic is a VERY viable weapon

[2010/08/15 20:01] Tiny Elfin2: alsoweaponless

[2010/08/15 20:01] PantaiputihKorobase: I am soooo against violence, do I still have a place in RP?

[2010/08/15 20:01] Abraham Ferryhill:Yes

[2010/08/15 20:01] PantaiputihKorobase: seconds magic :-)

[2010/08/15 20:01] Tiny Elfin2: wellid watch out for the wemon

[2010/08/15 20:02] Abraham Ferryhill:Our tavernkeeper is always drunk and never fights :)

tavernkeeper

(note: Had to show you. Tavernkeeper legs in the stocks)

[2010/08/15 20:02] PantaiputihKorobase: lol

[2010/08/15 20:02] Grimley Graves:sure Pants, violence is only part of it

[2010/08/15 20:02] PantaiputihKorobase: ok, tavernkeeper sounds VERY good to me anyway

[2010/08/15 20:02] Abraham Ferryhill:Really there's all the roles you can nave.

[2010/08/15 20:02] Oak Hazelnut: rpsint allways about fights or violence

[2010/08/15 20:02] Abraham Ferryhill:name.

[2010/08/15 20:02] Oak Hazelnut: canbe used with good intentions pants

[2010/08/15 20:02] Grimley Graves:we've done games with no fighting at all

[2010/08/15 20:02] Abraham Ferryhill:Yes. Now, do you know guy named J.L Moreno?

[2010/08/15 20:03] Abraham Ferryhill:ever heard?

[2010/08/15 20:03] Oak Hazelnut: magicis wonderfull way to rp

[2010/08/15 20:03] PantaiputihKorobase: nope

[2010/08/15 20:03] Grimley Graves: no

[2010/08/15 20:03] Oak Hazelnut: no

[2010/08/15 20:03] Abraham Ferryhill:There's little of actual research on roleplaying. There is researchabout kids play but not adults. J.L. Moreno's is a father ofpsychodrama and his role theory is basic study that tells us some keythings about role.

[2010/08/15 20:03] Tiny Elfin2: rockband from southamerica? oh sorz

[2010/08/15 20:03] Abraham Ferryhill:This is was Panta asked earlier. Do we roleplay in our everydaylives?

[2010/08/15 20:03] Abraham Ferryhill:Role isn't a dramatic enacment. Accordingly Morenos we have dozens ofroles and we change them from situation to situation. Architypes arevalid, you might be student but you also might be

spouse and you're most certanlysomeones children. Invoking one role makes other peoples to switchtheirs. That means if there's a childish person there will besomebody present who will take adult role - a opposite role.

[2010/08/15 20:04] Grimley Graves:psycobabble, bleh

[2010/08/15 20:04] Tiny Elfin2: soundslike oakie

[2010/08/15 20:04] Oak Hazelnut: hehe

[2010/08/15 20:04] Oak Hazelnut: slapstiny

[2010/08/15 20:04] Abraham Ferryhill:The point here is that it's actually natural to have diffrent roles.

[2010/08/15 20:04] Oak Hazelnut: nowthats rp my slapping tiny

[2010/08/15 20:05] Grimley Graves:slaps Oak

[2010/08/15 20:05] Oak Hazelnut: lol

[2010/08/15 20:05] Abraham Ferryhill:Emphaty means the capability to share another being's emotions andfeelings. That means if someone is hurt you can stop and help himbecause you can imagine yourself in same situation.

[2010/08/15 20:05] Tiny Elfin2 slidesa slimez cowpie down oakies pants

[2010/08/15 20:05] Oak Hazelnut: hehe

[2010/08/15 20:05] Grimley Graves:nyuk nyuk nyuk... hey MOE

[2010/08/15 20:05] Oak Hazelnut: loool

[2010/08/15 20:05] PantaiputihKorobase: well, in RL it might be less "extreme", butstill, there is plaing a role in different situations, differentenvironments, not that clear as in a "game", but still somedeviations form the real person behind may be

[2010/08/15 20:06] Abraham Ferryhill:Gamism needs a bit dramatic roles I suppose?

[2010/08/15 20:06] Grimley Graves: butin this discussion it's about acting

[2010/08/15 20:06] Oak Hazelnut:agreed

[2010/08/15 20:06] Grimley Graves:something completely beyond your normal life

[2010/08/15 20:06] PantaiputihKorobase: fo rme, nothing is completely behins the normnal life, otherwise, you could not do it

[2010/08/15 20:07] PantaiputihKorobase: so, it is in you already

[2010/08/15 20:07] PantaiputihKorobase: oooo typos

[2010/08/15 20:07] Oak Hazelnut: truepants

[2010/08/15 20:07] Abraham Ferryhill:What do you know about roleplaying that's used in therapy?

[2010/08/15 20:07] Oak Hazelnut: thereare many aspects to us all

[2010/08/15 20:07] PantaiputihKorobase: you can not escape your mind, you can learn, go forward, but there still are limits (human kind)

[2010/08/15 20:07] Grimley Graves:taking the role of leader, or sympathiser is basic, taking the roleof a monster or soldier is RP

[2010/08/15 20:08] Oak Hazelnut: nottrue

[2010/08/15 20:08] PantaiputihKorobase: think, a monster is easier than a responsibleleader...........

[2010/08/15 20:08] Oak Hazelnut: yuocan take role of budhest monk and rp

[2010/08/15 20:08] Abraham Ferryhill:I was mafia boss once :)

[2010/08/15 20:08] Oak Hazelnut: lol

[2010/08/15 20:08] PantaiputihKorobase: lol, Ab

[2010/08/15 20:08] Oak Hazelnut: i wascustard pie

[2010/08/15 20:08] PantaiputihKorobase: hahaha

[2010/08/15 20:09] PantaiputihKorobase: I did not find the banana RP game yet, but if Iwill............................. be cautios!

[2010/08/15 20:09] Tiny Elfin2: stillare

[2010/08/15 20:09] Abraham Ferryhill:What's interesting in roleplaying and live roleplaying is that same methods are used in real life therapy.

[2010/08/15 20:09] Grimley Graves: LOL

[2010/08/15 20:09] Abraham Ferryhill:Ever watched Frasier?

[2010/08/15 20:09] Grimley Graves: wbTiny

[2010/08/15 20:09] Abraham Ferryhill:wb Tiny

[2010/08/15 20:09] Oak Hazelnut: no

[2010/08/15 20:10] Abraham Ferryhill:LARP actually shares even debriefing with psychology.

[2010/08/15 20:10] Abraham Ferryhill:It's considered part of the after game.

[2010/08/15 20:10] Oak Hazelnut: ok

[2010/08/15 20:11] Abraham Ferryhill:Debriefing is something that's used to defuse traumatic situations.

[2010/08/15 20:11] Grimley Graves: weuse alcohol for that LOL

[2010/08/15 20:11] Oak Hazelnut: lol

[2010/08/15 20:11] PantaiputihKorobase: pffff

[2010/08/15 20:12] Abraham Ferryhill:We use that too a lot so it's no news.

[2010/08/15 20:12] Grimley Graves:zombies cant spell

[2010/08/15 20:12] Oak Hazelnut: lol

[2010/08/15 20:12] Abraham Ferryhill:Live action is a bastard son of psychodrama ;)

[2010/08/15 20:12] Grimley Graves:there is always a lot of psyco-babble about how RP helps or hurtspeople, but to me it's just fun... an escape from RL

[2010/08/15 20:13] Oak Hazelnut: yep

Frasier and the chair

[2010/08/15 20:13] Abraham Ferryhill:There would be a picture in the wall if you could see it. A Frasier talking to empty chair. That's same method that we use in funsituations.

[2010/08/15 20:13] Oak Hazelnut: thatswhy were here

[2010/08/15 20:13] PantaiputihKorobase: biggest prob with psychology in RL might be that there isalways an "interpreter" whi thinkg is right (and may benot)

[2010/08/15 20:14] Abraham Ferryhill:Well, the point I was making is safety issues which I'm about to talkabout next.

[2010/08/15 20:14] Grimley Graves:yeah, I have a real problem with psychologists

[2010/08/15 20:14] PantaiputihKorobase: :-) Girms

[2010/08/15 20:14] Oak Hazelnut:munches acorn

[2010/08/15 20:14] Grimley Graves:they taste terrible ;)

[2010/08/15 20:14] Abraham Ferryhill:Apple in the day keeps doctor away

[2010/08/15 20:14] PantaiputihKorobase: rolf

[2010/08/15 20:14] Oak Hazelnut: lol

[2010/08/15 20:14] Abraham Ferryhill:lol

[2010/08/15 20:15] Abraham Ferryhill:Anyway there has been critcism against roleplaying and it's only fairto actually point out that there's nothing to be ashamed of.

[2010/08/15 20:16] Oak Hazelnut: ofcourse not but like everything people have different tastes etc ,just dont force it on others thats simple

[2010/08/15 20:16] PantaiputihKorobase: signed

[2010/08/15 20:16] Abraham Ferryhill:I think that's most important safety rule there is.

[2010/08/15 20:16] Grimley Graves:it's never forced, thats what seperates us from a cult :)

[2010/08/15 20:16] Oak Hazelnut: ofcourse

[2010/08/15 20:18] Abraham Ferryhill:Accidents can happen without anybody "getting lost". Sowhat things are importat to you? What things we should consider sothat everyone would have good experience on roleplaying?

[2010/08/15 20:18] Oak Hazelnut: yep

[2010/08/15 20:19] Abraham Ferryhill:What say you?

[2010/08/15 20:20] Tiny Elfin2: oh poohow am i gonna steal his gold?

[2010/08/15 20:20] PantaiputihKorobase: consent is a good one too

[2010/08/15 20:21] Abraham Ferryhill:Tiny either you approach game master/storyteller/who's in charge andlet him negotiate it.

[2010/08/15 20:21] Abraham Ferryhill:Or you contact your victim and consent about the theft.

[2010/08/15 20:21] Grimley Graves: butconsent isn't always in the storyline

[2010/08/15 20:21] Tiny Elfin2: if bzstealing zour acorns zoud starve to death (rp of course) id do it

[2010/08/15 20:21] Oak Hazelnut: lool

[2010/08/15 20:21] Abraham Ferryhill:That's consent.

[2010/08/15 20:21] PantaiputihKorobase: wonders how many acorns, Oak has

[2010/08/15 20:22] Grimley Graves:yes, sometimes the dragon attacks the players, they dont consent tothat

[2010/08/15 20:22] Grimley Graves: butthey have to deal with it

[2010/08/15 20:22] PantaiputihKorobase: whyt dragon?

[2010/08/15 20:22] PantaiputihKorobase: whyt*

[2010/08/15 20:22] Abraham Ferryhill:I do think people do agree on some things when they enter rpg area.Like that they might get burn on dragon fire if they go to it's cave;)

[2010/08/15 20:23] Tiny Elfin2: thatswhz i build dragon traps into mz buildings

[2010/08/15 20:23] PantaiputihKorobase: aaa now I have the thai keybaord again too

[2010/08/15 20:23] Grimley Graves: andhow they deal is based on their characters, some attack, some seekrevenge, some turn the other cheek, etc

[2010/08/15 20:23] Oak Hazelnut: yep

[2010/08/15 20:23] Abraham Ferryhill:So we have some basic things everyone should agree on beforeroleplaying can begin.

[2010/08/15 20:24] Tiny Elfin2: havingfun is high on mz list

[2010/08/15 20:24] Grimley Graves:yeah, thats why we have a basic set of rules

[2010/08/15 20:24] Oak Hazelnut: yep

[2010/08/15 20:24] Grimley Graves:sorry, guidelines...

[2010/08/15 20:24] PantaiputihKorobase: recommendations, hhahaha

[2010/08/15 20:24] Grimley Graves: howcombat works, how magic works etc

[2010/08/15 20:24] PantaiputihKorobase: to make it even weaker

[2010/08/15 20:24] Abraham Ferryhill:Ok, what about rules considering talking?

[2010/08/15 20:25] Abraham Ferryhill:Because most drama begins there and not the actual combat.

[2010/08/15 20:25] Grimley Graves:chat should always be in character, out of character should be inIM's

[2010/08/15 20:25] Abraham Ferryhill:yes

[2010/08/15 20:25] PantaiputihKorobase: drama can even start by looking into a bad temperd face(words not needed)

[2010/08/15 20:26] Abraham Ferryhill:yes, that's a bit harder here though

[2010/08/15 20:26] PantaiputihKorobase: lol, ydes

[2010/08/15 20:26] Abraham Ferryhill:Everything you say in open chat is regarded in character. That meansit's paramout to keep In character and out of character discussionseperate.

[2010/08/15 20:26] PantaiputihKorobase: can I have a metacharacter window?

[2010/08/15 20:26] Oak Hazelnut: yep

[2010/08/15 20:26] Grimley Graves:it's hard for some to get used to tho

[2010/08/15 20:27] Abraham Ferryhill:few things that helps:

[2010/08/15 20:27] Abraham Ferryhill:-Most people look like their character. They don't come to LARP intheir blue jeans!

-Have diffrent name to your characterthan what's your avatar name.

[2010/08/15 20:27] Abraham Ferryhill:-In SL and OL you should use repeater and possibly floating textannouncing your character name.

Repeater turns your text to "Charactername: xxxxxx" format making it impossible to mix with your OLpersona.

[2010/08/15 20:28] Grimley Graves:thats the next order of business, what should a RP hud have?

[2010/08/15 20:28] Abraham Ferryhill:Well I have repater titler ready already so I don't think I don'tneed anything else...

[2010/08/15 20:29] Grimley Graves:I've seen so many huds that have floating text above players headsannouncing all stats, strengths, weaknesses, hit points, class

[2010/08/15 20:29] Grimley Graves: itgets annoying

[2010/08/15 20:29] PantaiputihKorobase: boring even may be

[2010/08/15 20:29] Abraham Ferryhill:yes, and those things don't actually help you to get into role

[2010/08/15 20:30] PantaiputihKorobase: no magic :-))

[2010/08/15 20:30] Grimley Graves:four lines of text above each avs head lol

[2010/08/15 20:30] Abraham Ferryhill:Because most things happen inside your head.

[2010/08/15 20:30] PantaiputihKorobase: and I am short sigthed

[2010/08/15 20:30] Tiny Elfin2: imagainst huds that show everzone zour stats

[2010/08/15 20:30] Grimley Graves: inmy opinion a simple health bar is all that should be displayed toother players

[2010/08/15 20:30] Tiny Elfin2: iwouldnt even have that

[2010/08/15 20:30] Abraham Ferryhill:I think most important thing is you to have note about your character

[2010/08/15 20:30] Grimley Graves:agreed tiny

[2010/08/15 20:31] Abraham Ferryhill:Name, occupation...

[2010/08/15 20:31] Grimley Graves:everything else can be in a floating window viewable to you only

[2010/08/15 20:31] Tiny Elfin2: i didone for a starwars charctor i used

[2010/08/15 20:31] Abraham Ferryhill:that's great tiny

[2010/08/15 20:32] PantaiputihKorobase: brb

[2010/08/15 20:32] PantaiputihKorobase: RL

[2010/08/15 20:32] Abraham Ferryhill:I would show some of my character if inventory would work :P

[2010/08/15 20:32] Oak Hazelnut: hehe

[2010/08/15 20:35] Grimley Graves:we're all air sitting

[2010/08/15 20:39] Tiny Elfin2: iwrote that at 828 and reloged

[2010/08/15 20:39] Grimley Graves: youmean for RP?

[2010/08/15 20:39] Tiny Elfin2: noooo

[2010/08/15 20:40] Tiny Elfin2:[12:39] Tiny Elfin2: again it logged me out at 8.28

[2010/08/15 20:40] Tiny Elfin2: thisline

[2010/08/15 20:40] Abraham Ferryhill:ok

[2010/08/15 20:40] Oak Hazelnut: hehe

[2010/08/15 20:40] Tiny Elfin2: iwrote it at 8.28

[2010/08/15 20:40] Abraham Ferryhill:I'm back

[2010/08/15 20:40] Oak Hazelnut: loolnice cloud ab

[2010/08/15 20:40] Grimley Graves:chat lag could lead to some interesting RP LOL

[2010/08/15 20:40] Tiny Elfin2: wbabraham

[2010/08/15 20:40] Abraham Ferryhill:Had to dump cache

[2010/08/15 20:40] PantaiputihKorobase: actually, there are so many factors influencing VWs likeyou ISP, your hardware, their serveers, it is hard tro tell what goesright and wha goes wrong

[2010/08/15 20:40] Tiny Elfin2: zouralso a cloud

[2010/08/15 20:40] PantaiputihKorobase: wb Ab

[2010/08/15 20:40] Grimley Graves:yep, true Pant

[2010/08/15 20:41] PantaiputihKorobase: we all see the world differently :-)))))))))))))9

[2010/08/15 20:41] Abraham Ferryhill:I was just going to ask what we would need to have roleplaying in OL?

[2010/08/15 20:41] Tiny Elfin2: swords

[2010/08/15 20:41] PantaiputihKorobase: a 16 core chip

[2010/08/15 20:41] Grimley Graves: 1 agood story /quest

[2010/08/15 20:41] Abraham Ferryhill:You can have a load of swords from that boat :)

[2010/08/15 20:41] Tiny Elfin2: adependable data storage server

[2010/08/15 20:41] Grimley Graves: 2 agood combat and magic system

[2010/08/15 20:42] Grimley Graves: 3 adecent set of guidelines

[2010/08/15 20:42] Abraham Ferryhill:I think I was going strong untill I started to manipulate inventory.Chat works most of the time. Of course there's lag.

[2010/08/15 20:42] Abraham Ferryhill:But I think I'll elect Grims idea.

[2010/08/15 20:42] Abraham Ferryhill:For roleplay you'll need a story.

[2010/08/15 20:42] Abraham Ferryhill:Everything else (like working gird) is a bonus.

[2010/08/15 20:43] Abraham Ferryhill:And fact is roleplaying is based on text in any SL like enviroment.

[2010/08/15 20:43] Tiny Elfin2: wellnot onlz combat and majic, dont forget someone serves beer down atthe tavern

[2010/08/15 20:43] PantaiputihKorobase: and acorns

[2010/08/15 20:43] Grimley Graves:guidelines everyone agrees on is second in importance

[2010/08/15 20:43] PantaiputihKorobase: roasted

[2010/08/15 20:43] PantaiputihKorobase: .-)))

[2010/08/15 20:44] Grimley Graves: acombat hud would be nice but is not as needed as the others

[2010/08/15 20:44] Tiny Elfin2introduces oakies pants to another slimie cowpatie

[2010/08/15 20:44] Abraham Ferryhill:One thing is missing here.

[2010/08/15 20:44] PantaiputihKorobase: hahah

[2010/08/15 20:44] Abraham Ferryhill:The most important thing beside the story.

[2010/08/15 20:44] Abraham Ferryhill:The people.

[2010/08/15 20:45] PantaiputihKorobase: well, we have experience to bring people from other gridsto OL .-)

[2010/08/15 20:45] Grimley Graves:thats true

[2010/08/15 20:45] Abraham Ferryhill:Now there's quite many styles to actually roleplay here. We candiscuss lessos learned in SL later.

[2010/08/15 20:45] Oak Hazelnut: loool

[2010/08/15 20:45] Abraham Ferryhill:You can have roleplay with just few people.

[2010/08/15 20:45] Oak Hazelnut:lessonss ooh so many

[2010/08/15 20:45] Grimley Graves:there are also wasy of doing solo quests

[2010/08/15 20:45] Abraham Ferryhill:But they need to be same place at same time.

[2010/08/15 20:46] Oak Hazelnut:pinches tint

[2010/08/15 20:46] Abraham Ferryhill:Solo like in what terms?

[2010/08/15 20:46] Oak Hazelnut: tiny

[2010/08/15 20:46] Grimley Graves:well, treasure hunts, puzzle quests, etc...

[2010/08/15 20:46] Tiny Elfin2 watchesher tinz spider climb up oakies leg

[2010/08/15 20:46] Grimley Graves: notso heavy on the RP but can be themed

[2010/08/15 20:46] Oak Hazelnut:scream

[2010/08/15 20:46] Abraham Ferryhill:yes, and thats why I'm going to keep some tutorials here.

[2010/08/15 20:47] Abraham Ferryhill:Small adventures for small group.

[2010/08/15 20:47] Grimley Graves: Ihave some ideas on solo quests

[2010/08/15 20:47] Tiny Elfin2 softlzhums to her spider as it continues its journez

[2010/08/15 20:47] Abraham Ferryhill:It's close to british LRP with one gamemaster and players. Thegamemaster leads the group from place to place and plays the Nonplayer character roles.

[2010/08/15 20:47] Grimley Graves:I've seen decent NPC scripts for monsters

[2010/08/15 20:48] Abraham Ferryhill:It's a bit railroaded application but easy.

[2010/08/15 20:48] Abraham Ferryhill:Granted NPC scripts could be handy.

[2010/08/15 20:48] Grimley Graves:we'll have to talk to Firebird about those

[2010/08/15 20:48] PantaiputihKorobase: aaah Firebird can do those?

[2010/08/15 20:49] Abraham Ferryhill:Well, there's limit of programming always.

[2010/08/15 20:49] Grimley Graves: butthey all have to interact with the hud, if any

[2010/08/15 20:49] Abraham Ferryhill:Easiest way is to have one person who plays all the extra roles.

[2010/08/15 20:49] Grimley Graves:true, but changing avs is a pain

[2010/08/15 20:50] Abraham Ferryhill:I haven't had too much problem but It can be in this enviroment.

[2010/08/15 20:50] Abraham Ferryhill:So basically I'm suggesting to have really tiny events with less job.

[2010/08/15 20:50] Grimley Graves:another important thing is "no fly"

[2010/08/15 20:50] Abraham Ferryhill:we're not supermen

[2010/08/15 20:51] Abraham Ferryhill:When we have working roleplaying here we can have gatherings as openroleplaying events.

[2010/08/15 20:51] Abraham Ferryhill:Then*

[2010/08/15 20:51] Grimley Graves:unless you are riding a dragon you should be landlocked :)

[2010/08/15 20:51] Abraham Ferryhill:I'm planning to keep tavern evenings here ;)

[2010/08/15 20:52] PantaiputihKorobase: may be I missed it, but what would be the gerenal RP topicyou want to introduce to OL, ABraham?

[2010/08/15 20:52] Grimley Graves: oryour character has the fly ability

[2010/08/15 20:52] Abraham Ferryhill:Depends what sense you mean that Panta?

[2010/08/15 20:52] PantaiputihKorobase: general*

[2010/08/15 20:52] Abraham Ferryhill:Fly spell? ;)

[2010/08/15 20:52] PantaiputihKorobase: lol

[2010/08/15 20:52] Abraham Ferryhill:Well generally we'll be doing same things than in SL. Without drama Ihope? ;)

[2010/08/15 20:53] Abraham Ferryhill:But I would say that small guests for few people would be best forstarters.

[2010/08/15 20:53] Grimley Graves:having the ability to have an item that would allow someone to fly ina no fly zone would be really useful

[2010/08/15 20:53] PantaiputihKorobase: drama is everywhere I guess :-)

[2010/08/15 20:53] PantaiputihKorobase: stilll

[2010/08/15 20:53] Grimley Graves: areyou talking about genre Panta?

[2010/08/15 20:53] PantaiputihKorobase: some might be attracted by meidivial worlds, others by SciFi world, others again by anthing else

[2010/08/15 20:53] PantaiputihKorobase: yep

[2010/08/15 20:54] Grimley Graves: ah,it can be almost anything

[2010/08/15 20:54] Abraham Ferryhill:Last year Lord of The rings Online RPG was awarded as having mostwelcoming comminity.

[2010/08/15 20:54] Abraham Ferryhill:I asked my friend about it and he told most of players are adult.

[2010/08/15 20:54] PantaiputihKorobase: as we are no tatlking about RP in gerenal anymore but onthis grid, I woul dlike to know Abs ideas

[2010/08/15 20:54] Abraham Ferryhill:That's PG game ;)

[2010/08/15 20:54] PantaiputihKorobase: omg, my fingers............

[2010/08/15 20:55] Abraham Ferryhill:Well elves are one major thing here but I think I'm past thinkingroleplaying as genre to genre. Medieval fantasy would be thing herewheres SL has large amount of scifi.

[2010/08/15 20:55] PantaiputihKorobase: btw, how to do RP on a grid with something like 10concurrent users?

[2010/08/15 20:56] Abraham Ferryhill:But most important thing is have a warm community.

[2010/08/15 20:56] Oak Hazelnut: mm

[2010/08/15 20:56] Abraham Ferryhill:10 is well enough. Our RL group had 4 people in their first LARP.

[2010/08/15 20:56] Grimley Graves:it's all in how you write the story

[2010/08/15 20:56] PantaiputihKorobase: well, we are warm community even wo RP

[2010/08/15 20:56] Oak Hazelnut: yepwe are

[2010/08/15 20:56] Grimley Graves: andwe can tailor the genre to the regions

[2010/08/15 20:56] Abraham Ferryhill:Yes we are and now we're thinking about adding content here.

[2010/08/15 20:56] PantaiputihKorobase: not objecting RP by that

[2010/08/15 20:57] PantaiputihKorobase: yes, Ab, got that

[2010/08/15 20:57] Abraham Ferryhill:Well, I think it like this. In OL what you see is what you get.

buggy ol

[2010/08/15 20:57] Abraham Ferryhill:Having props like this isn't possible in real life.

[2010/08/15 20:57] PantaiputihKorobase: if you see it , hahahaha

[2010/08/15 20:57] Grimley Graves: lol

[2010/08/15 20:57] Abraham Ferryhill:It's not possible in IRC roleplaying, and it is left on yourimigination in table top roleplaying games.

[2010/08/15 20:58] Abraham Ferryhill:So strong feel of being there is definitely plus side of OL.

[2010/08/15 20:58] Grimley Graves: yes

[2010/08/15 20:58] Abraham Ferryhill:So virtual reality gaming like this is actually not future but today.

[2010/08/15 20:59] Abraham Ferryhill:And that's why I have been migrating our organization here.

[2010/08/15 20:59] Abraham Ferryhill:This place we're setting here was pencil drawing in our sourcematerial.

[2010/08/15 20:59] Abraham Ferryhill:Now it's actually here.

[2010/08/15 20:59] PantaiputihKorobase: as you can set standards and levels, rules etc by yourself- this is an advantage of VWs

[2010/08/15 21:00] PantaiputihKorobase: that are user created

[2010/08/15 21:02] Grimley Graves:still there Oak?

[2010/08/15 21:03] Grimley Graves: wbabe

[2010/08/15 21:03] Abraham Ferryhill:Great, it's working.

[2010/08/15 21:04] Abraham Ferryhill:I was just answerin Panta when this thing crashed on me.

[2010/08/15 21:04] Grimley Graves:Pants had to go :/

[2010/08/15 21:04] Abraham Ferryhill:I think he said what's most important. Respect.

[2010/08/15 21:05] Oak Hazelnut: munch

[2010/08/15 21:05] Grimley Graves: ah,you are still here

[2010/08/15 21:05] Oak Hazelnut: yepsorry was doing something on lions den

[2010/08/15 21:06] Oak Hazelnut: wasonly away for few mins lol

[2010/08/15 21:06] Abraham Ferryhill:You can be in two places at once?

[2010/08/15 21:06] Grimley Graves:with an alt yeah

[2010/08/15 21:06] Oak Hazelnut: hehe

[2010/08/15 21:06] Oak Hazelnut: yourboth see tomorrow

[2010/08/15 21:06] Oak Hazelnut: lool

[2010/08/15 21:06] Abraham Ferryhill:kk

[2010/08/15 21:07] Abraham Ferryhill:Anyway there is time issue on any events

[2010/08/15 21:07] Abraham Ferryhill:No matter how hard I try to solve it seems somebody has to take earlymorning shift :)(

[2010/08/15 21:07] Grimley Graves:yeah, stupid time zones

[2010/08/15 21:07] Oak Hazelnut: yep

[2010/08/15 21:07] Abraham Ferryhill:But there's not much pacific people here so europe-american side ofglobe would be priority.

[2010/08/15 21:07] Grimley Graves:weekends will be best for group events

[2010/08/15 21:08] Oak Hazelnut: yessaturdays

[2010/08/15 21:08] Abraham Ferryhill:Shai gave idea of about 6pm

[2010/08/15 21:08] Abraham Ferryhill:before VL

[2010/08/15 21:08] Grimley Graves: andi'm a big supporter of solo quests, so there is something to dowhenever you're here

[2010/08/15 21:08] Oak Hazelnut: yes

[2010/08/15 21:09] Abraham Ferryhill:I can't be on every saturday so sunday might be one possibility too

[2010/08/15 21:09] Abraham Ferryhill:But I might start like... next sunday with tutorial quest.

[2010/08/15 21:09] Grimley Graves:yeah, any time people dont have to get up the next day

[2010/08/15 21:09] Oak Hazelnut: greatidea

[2010/08/15 21:10] Abraham Ferryhill:We could talk things, make characters, even find some costumes andhave small adventure.

[2010/08/15 21:10] Grimley Graves:nice, gotta start somewhere

[2010/08/15 21:11] Abraham Ferryhill:Yes, and prefer somebody else does that too :)

[2010/08/15 21:11] Oak Hazelnut:scream

[2010/08/15 21:11] Oak Hazelnut: oopssorry

[2010/08/15 21:11] Abraham Ferryhill:So it should be priority to recruit people who would actually haveideas and time for this kind of stuff.

[2010/08/15 21:12] Abraham Ferryhill:I can't be up in american times and we really could use somebody tokeep tutorials to them too.

[2010/08/15 21:12] Abraham Ferryhill:Is there any elf group members who could do this?

[2010/08/15 21:12] Grimley Graves:well, I'm in the US

[2010/08/15 21:12] Oak Hazelnut: yes

[2010/08/15 21:12] Oak Hazelnut: many

[2010/08/15 21:13] Grimley Graves: Icould help out on the US time zones

[2010/08/15 21:13] Abraham Ferryhill:Yes even Surreal told me he could help :)

[2010/08/15 21:13] Grimley Graves: butI'm more of a nuts-n-blots guy, not so good on the story side

[2010/08/15 21:13] Abraham Ferryhill:Well the one lessons learned in SL is that don't overdo things.

[2010/08/15 21:14] Oak Hazelnut: hehe

[2010/08/15 21:14] Grimley Graves: yep

[2010/08/15 21:14] Abraham Ferryhill:Adventures do need to be simple.

[2010/08/15 21:14] Abraham Ferryhill:Goblin steals the boot (actually that's next adventure startingpoint)

[2010/08/15 21:14] Abraham Ferryhill:You don't have left boot now. What do you do?

[2010/08/15 21:14] Grimley Graves: goget the boot

[2010/08/15 21:14] Oak Hazelnut: sorryguys wont be long argueing with lion

[2010/08/15 21:14] Grimley Graves:kill the goblin if you have to'

[2010/08/15 21:15] Abraham Ferryhill:Yes, advetures here are more straightfoward than in paper and penroleplaying games.

[2010/08/15 21:15] Abraham Ferryhill:Standard would be what you said it would be. Respect.

[2010/08/15 21:15] Grimley Graves: butbonus points if you can steal it back without violence

[2010/08/15 19:34]  Pantaiputih Korobase: lol, yes, most probably
[2010/08/15 19:34]  Pantaiputih Korobase: should be to take a role and play it

[2010/08/15 19:36]  Pantaiputih Korobase: his face is grey to me anyway, wht does that mean?
[2010/08/15 19:37]  Grimley Graves: bad acorns?
[2010/08/15 19:37]  Pantaiputih Korobase: ahahahaha
[2010/08/15 19:37]  Abraham Ferryhill: Problems with heart?
[2010/08/15 19:37]  Pantaiputih Korobase: it would be green and purple then

[2010/08/15 19:37]  Abraham Ferryhill: So what's your definition of roleplay?
[2010/08/15 19:38]  Oak Hazelnut: whos
[2010/08/15 19:38]  Abraham Ferryhill: yours
[2010/08/15 19:38]  Oak Hazelnut: mine simple someone who lives out role against another person
[2010/08/15 19:38]  Oak Hazelnut: ir with weapons fighting etc
[2010/08/15 19:38]  Abraham Ferryhill: ok, scary
[2010/08/15 19:39]  Grimley Graves: lol
[2010/08/15 19:39]  Oak Hazelnut: lol
[2010/08/15 19:39]  Abraham Ferryhill: PvP view :)
[2010/08/15 19:39]  Abraham Ferryhill: What's your idea Grims?
[2010/08/15 19:39]  Grimley Graves: my idea is not to give Oak sharp objects :)
[2010/08/15 19:39]  Pantaiputih Korobase: this is RP?
[2010/08/15 19:39]  Oak Hazelnut: lool
[2010/08/15 19:39]  Grimley Graves: basically RP is a group activity...
[2010/08/15 19:40]  Lion Ewry is Offline
[2010/08/15 19:40]  Grimley Graves: it's telling a story by taking the role of a character in that story...
[2010/08/15 19:40]  Grimley Graves: the storyline is malleable, it can change as the players interact
[2010/08/15 19:41]  Oak Hazelnut: ooh grim you been reading up
[2010/08/15 19:41]  Grimley Graves: sort of like improvisational theater
[2010/08/15 19:41]  Pantaiputih Korobase: yep, some framework and first ruels and then it can develop
[2010/08/15 19:41]  Grimley Graves: lol, I've been a LARPer for almost 30 years now
[2010/08/15 19:41]  Abraham Ferryhill: That's why you're last ;)
[2010/08/15 19:41]  Pantaiputih Korobase: what is a a larper?
[2010/08/15 19:42]  Pantaiputih Korobase: long acting RP?
[2010/08/15 19:42]  Abraham Ferryhill: I'll go into LARP in this.
[2010/08/15 19:42]  Abraham Ferryhill: http://captionsearch.com/pix/thumb/k5ojpitgi2-t.jpg
[2010/08/15 19:42]  Abraham Ferryhill: This is picture I wanted to show you to all :)
[2010/08/15 19:42]  Grimley Graves: yeah, you have a basic set of rules, guidelines on how to play combat and magic for example
[2010/08/15 19:42]  Pantaiputih Korobase: ok, got that :-)
[2010/08/15 19:42]  Abraham Ferryhill: Yes that's true :)
[2010/08/15 19:42]  Abraham Ferryhill: I'll tell about scandinavic style later on but first definition of roleplay:
[2010/08/15 19:42]  Abraham Ferryhill: My definition of roleplaying is a 'interactive story with imiginative characters where participant actually takes a fictive role at some point.'
[2010/08/15 19:43]  Grimley Graves: LOL, oh god thats too close for comfort
[2010/08/15 19:43]  Oak Hazelnut: lol
[2010/08/15 19:43]  Abraham Ferryhill: Roleplaying might be taking role of some sort of monster piggy...
[2010/08/15 19:43]  Oak Hazelnut: true
[2010/08/15 19:43]  Abraham Ferryhill: But in any terms, means roleplaying is a first of all: state of mind.
[2010/08/15 19:44]  Abraham Ferryhill: Can you tell me things that came close but are not roleplaying?
[2010/08/15 19:44]  Abraham Ferryhill: In strict sense.
[2010/08/15 19:44]  Pantaiputih Korobase: umm, real life?
[2010/08/15 19:44]  Oak Hazelnut: lool
[2010/08/15 19:44]  Oak Hazelnut: well theres amny things
[2010/08/15 19:44]  Pantaiputih Korobase: we all play roles in RL too in some way
[2010/08/15 19:45]  Oak Hazelnut: action films are one
[2010/08/15 19:45]  Oak Hazelnut: internet is another
[2010/08/15 19:45]  Pantaiputih Korobase: ello Tiny
[2010/08/15 19:45]  Abraham Ferryhill: yes you're right.
[2010/08/15 19:45]  Abraham Ferryhill: Welcome!
[2010/08/15 19:45]  Oak Hazelnut: anything tht involves non comformed character is role play
[2010/08/15 19:45]  Grimley Graves: hi Tiny
[2010/08/15 19:45]  Oak Hazelnut: at last
[2010/08/15 19:45]  Oak Hazelnut: where you been tiny
[2010/08/15 19:45]  Abraham Ferryhill: quite true oak
[2010/08/15 19:45]  Abraham Ferryhill: Well one thing comes to my mind SCA:
[2010/08/15 19:46]  Oak Hazelnut: wheres tiny
[2010/08/15 19:46]  Tiny Elfin2: hi everzone
[2010/08/15 19:46]  Oak Hazelnut: cant seeher
[2010/08/15 19:46]  Abraham Ferryhill: You can dress to 17th century dress and still not being roleplaying.
[2010/08/15 19:46]  Tiny Elfin2: logging in and teleporting is borked
[2010/08/15 19:46]  Abraham Ferryhill: Told you :)
[2010/08/15 19:46]  Grimley Graves: yeah, from what I know of it it's a loose definition of RP
[2010/08/15 19:46]  Oak Hazelnut: yep i know took us all ages to log in
[2010/08/15 19:46]  Abraham Ferryhill: wo things you need: role and play
[2010/08/15 19:46]  Abraham Ferryhill: two
[2010/08/15 19:47]  Oak Hazelnut: tiny sit down
[2010/08/15 19:47]  Grimley Graves: altho some SCAers I know live their "roles" 24/7
[2010/08/15 19:47]  Abraham Ferryhill: That might be metarole then.
[2010/08/15 19:47]  Abraham Ferryhill: Role could be historical person but when you're improvising and not telling lines like in theatre you're roleplaying.
[2010/08/15 19:47]  Oak Hazelnut: yes actors role paly
[2010/08/15 19:47]  Cheops Forlife is Online
[2010/08/15 19:48]  Grimley Graves: yeah, improv... the hardest style of acting
[2010/08/15 19:48]  Abraham Ferryhill: Actually both yes and no.
[2010/08/15 19:48]  Oak Hazelnut: mm
[2010/08/15 19:48]  Abraham Ferryhill: Yes actors do roleplay but they are not actually encouraged it.
[2010/08/15 19:48]  Oak Hazelnut: true
[2010/08/15 19:48]  Pantaiputih Korobase: as they just repeat the words written by someone
[2010/08/15 19:48]  Abraham Ferryhill: yes, and in defintion that's not roleplaying
[2010/08/15 19:48]  Grimley Graves: yes, very scripted
[2010/08/15 19:49]  Abraham Ferryhill: but you can get to role through written things
[2010/08/15 19:49]  Oak Hazelnut: if ihit grim with acorn thats role play lool
[2010/08/15 19:49]  Grimley Graves: now take a character and put them in a play they dont know... thats RP
[2010/08/15 19:49]  Tiny Elfin2: um no
[2010/08/15 19:49]  Tiny Elfin2: thats griefing, and zoull be beheaded here
[2010/08/15 19:49]  Oak Hazelnut: lool
[2010/08/15 19:49]  Tiny Elfin2: thats roleplaz
[2010/08/15 19:49]  Abraham Ferryhill: Grim told before about roleplaying being social. That's true
[2010/08/15 19:49]  Abraham Ferryhill: Roleplaying games are social hobby. Though there's no audience in roleplaying games. This is true in live action too. The play is for participants only. That means even terribly shy people can try it. Having audience folloing roleplay would cause some people to freeze which is not fun.
[2010/08/15 19:49]  Pantaiputih Korobase: lol, tiny, you have your keyboards settigns Asian or American, lol
[2010/08/15 19:49]  Abraham Ferryhill: Actually that happened to us once.
[2010/08/15 19:50]  Oak Hazelnut: lol
[2010/08/15 19:50]  Grimley Graves: my group has lots of onlookers
[2010/08/15 19:50]  Tiny Elfin2: european
[2010/08/15 19:50]  Grimley Graves: they follow the teams and watch
[2010/08/15 19:50]  Grimley Graves: but stay out of the way
[2010/08/15 19:50]  Oak Hazelnut: what group
[2010/08/15 19:50]  Grimley Graves: IFGS
[2010/08/15 19:50]  Abraham Ferryhill: What's IFGS?
[2010/08/15 19:50]  Grimley Graves: http://www.ifgs.org/
[2010/08/15 19:51]  Grimley Graves: my larp group
[2010/08/15 19:51]  Tiny Elfin2: machine gun made bz theisralie airforce_
[2010/08/15 19:51]  Abraham Ferryhill: Japanese tourists like to shoot a lot with cameras :)
[2010/08/15 19:51]  Oak Hazelnut: oh
[2010/08/15 19:51]  Abraham Ferryhill: That's why acual castles are bad places to live roleplay
[2010/08/15 19:51]  Pantaiputih Korobase: basically, VWs are roleplaying words too, I guess, may be not on the strict sense, but at least you chose a character and play it
[2010/08/15 19:51]  Abraham Ferryhill: We have lots of woods to hide in.
[2010/08/15 19:51]  Oak Hazelnut: elfs are rp lol
[2010/08/15 19:51]  Oak Hazelnut: we hide behind tinylool
[2010/08/15 19:52]  Pantaiputih Korobase: as an example
[2010/08/15 19:52]  Pantaiputih Korobase: I mean, how can I be sure Grims is not playing a role in here?
[2010/08/15 19:52]  Oak Hazelnut: you cant
[2010/08/15 19:52]  Grimley Graves: well, VW's have that opportunity, but mostly people play themselves
[2010/08/15 19:52]  Oak Hazelnut: whats vws a car
[2010/08/15 19:52]  Pantaiputih Korobase: well, yep, right, Grims, mostly
[2010/08/15 19:52]  Abraham Ferryhill: Ok, how about next issue then. Is there winners in RP?
[2010/08/15 19:52]  Oak Hazelnut: yes
[2010/08/15 19:52]  Oak Hazelnut: the ones who survive lol
[2010/08/15 19:52]  Pantaiputih Korobase: depends on the setting
[2010/08/15 19:52]  Grimley Graves: yeah, those that have fun :)
[2010/08/15 19:53]  Pantaiputih Korobase: no need to have them, but can have them
[2010/08/15 19:53]  Abraham Ferryhill: true all
[2010/08/15 19:53]  Abraham Ferryhill: There's no winners in roleplaying games. We have some words as leftovers from boardgames like calling live action events to 'games' or organizator as 'gamemaster.' But in definition you can't ever win roleplaying game or live roleplaying game. I think that idea was killed somewhere in the 80s -
you can measure social values in points or gold collected. However you can excell in scenario. To Apollo 13 their scenario was to return back to Earth and they did just that. However roleplayer might just want to take role of criminal who's going to be hanged in the morning. Best experiences do come from situations when you're not actually winning anything.
[2010/08/15 19:53]  Pantaiputih Korobase: (even losers can win)
[2010/08/15 19:53]  Oak Hazelnut: oh
[2010/08/15 19:53]  Abraham Ferryhill: loosing is fun :)
[2010/08/15 19:53]  Grimley Graves: some of our games have been that way
[2010/08/15 19:53]  Grimley Graves: only way to win is to lose
[2010/08/15 19:54]  Pantaiputih Korobase: lol
[2010/08/15 19:54]  Oak Hazelnut: what
[2010/08/15 19:54]  Grimley Graves: sacrifice your characters life to save the kingdom
[2010/08/15 19:54]  Abraham Ferryhill: or be the poor guy who gets beheaded :)
[2010/08/15 19:54]  Pantaiputih Korobase: I assume, there are also settings with RP where there is no need to talk about losing or winning, but just to interact
[2010/08/15 19:55]  Oak Hazelnut: yep
[2010/08/15 19:55]  Pantaiputih Korobase: and may be learn
[2010/08/15 19:55]  Abraham Ferryhill: Depends the scenario.
[2010/08/15 19:55]  Pantaiputih Korobase: sure
[2010/08/15 19:55]  Grimley Graves: yeah, we call those "tavern games" mostly set in town bars or meeting halls
[2010/08/15 19:55]  Abraham Ferryhill: We do have tavern games
[2010/08/15 19:55]  Grimley Graves: no real "goal" just interaction
[2010/08/15 19:56]  Abraham Ferryhill: And the revard is social aways.
[2010/08/15 19:56]  Grimley Graves: most of ours are lore giving games for the bigger games
[2010/08/15 19:56]  Abraham Ferryhill: I'll show a picture in the wall.
[2010/08/15 19:56]  Abraham Ferryhill: Guess who's going to be a dog meat? ;)
[2010/08/15 19:56]  Oak Hazelnut: lo
[2010/08/15 19:57]  Grimley Graves: "lore" being important clues and info given to players before the game begins
[2010/08/15 19:57]  Oak Hazelnut: yep
[2010/08/15 19:57]  Abraham Ferryhill: Yes, the material is usually written down.
[2010/08/15 19:57]  Pantaiputih Korobase: cant see the texture
[2010/08/15 19:57]  Grimley Graves: the treasure map, the cryptic note, etc
[2010/08/15 19:57]  Pantaiputih Korobase accepted your inventory offer.
[2010/08/15 19:58]  Grimley Graves: me either, bad grid day
[2010/08/15 19:58]  Abraham Ferryhill: That's me against the guards in the picture.
[2010/08/15 19:58]  Abraham Ferryhill: Knew that would happen :)
[2010/08/15 19:58]  Tiny Elfin2: well dont feel bad i cant see me or the pic

[2010/08/15 19:58]  Tiny Elfin2 accepted your inventory offer.
[2010/08/15 19:58]  Pantaiputih Korobase: guess, the servers are a bit sleepy
[2010/08/15 19:58]  Grimley Graves: shift copt the pic, maybe it will force a load
[2010/08/15 19:58]  Abraham Ferryhill: I'll hand out pictures to those who can't see
[2010/08/15 19:59]  Oak Hazelnut: i ant
[2010/08/15 19:59]  Pantaiputih Korobase: cant see it from inventory either

[2010/08/15 20:00]  Abraham Ferryhill: Yeah, I stroke two soldiers down and had one hit. I was holding my wonded side when pirest comes and heals those two.
[2010/08/15 20:00]  Tiny Elfin2: be fair two are wemon with out viyable weapons
[2010/08/15 20:01]  Abraham Ferryhill: yes that's our organization
[2010/08/15 20:01]  Abraham Ferryhill: Then I'm against five and some auxiaries.
[2010/08/15 20:01]  Oak Hazelnut: i cant see anthing
[2010/08/15 20:01]  Abraham Ferryhill: Managed to wound four :)
[2010/08/15 20:01]  Tiny Elfin2: looks like a monk involved there
[2010/08/15 20:01]  Grimley Graves: lol, probably MU's
[2010/08/15 20:01]  Abraham Ferryhill: Thats right Tiny
[2010/08/15 20:01]  Grimley Graves: magic is a VERY viable weapon
[2010/08/15 20:01]  Tiny Elfin2: also weaponless
[2010/08/15 20:01]  Pantaiputih Korobase: I am soooo against violence, do I still have a place in RP?
[2010/08/15 20:01]  Abraham Ferryhill: Yes
[2010/08/15 20:01]  Pantaiputih Korobase: seconds magic :-)
[2010/08/15 20:01]  Tiny Elfin2: well id watch out for the wemon
[2010/08/15 20:02]  Oak Hazelnut: as my cake maker pants
[2010/08/15 20:02]  Abraham Ferryhill: Our tavernkeeper is always drunk and never fights :)
[2010/08/15 20:02]  Pantaiputih Korobase: lol
[2010/08/15 20:02]  Grimley Graves: sure Pants, violence is only part of it
[2010/08/15 20:02]  Pantaiputih Korobase: ok, tavernkeeper sounds VERY good to me anyway
[2010/08/15 20:02]  Abraham Ferryhill: Really there's all the roles you can nave.
[2010/08/15 20:02]  Oak Hazelnut: rp sint allways about fights or violence
[2010/08/15 20:02]  Abraham Ferryhill: name.
[2010/08/15 20:02]  Oak Hazelnut: can be used with good intentions pants
[2010/08/15 20:02]  Grimley Graves: we've done games with no fighting at all
[2010/08/15 20:02]  Abraham Ferryhill: Yes. Now, do you know guy named J.L Moreno?
[2010/08/15 20:03]  Abraham Ferryhill: ever heard?
[2010/08/15 20:03]  Oak Hazelnut: magic is wonderfull way to rp
[2010/08/15 20:03]  Pantaiputih Korobase: nope
[2010/08/15 20:03]  Grimley Graves: no
[2010/08/15 20:03]  Oak Hazelnut: no
[2010/08/15 20:03]  Abraham Ferryhill: There's little of actual research on roleplaying. There is research about kids play but not adults. J.L. Moreno's is a father of psychodrama and his role theory is basic study that tells us some key things about role.
[2010/08/15 20:03]  Tiny Elfin2: rock band from southamerica? oh sorz
[2010/08/15 20:03]  Abraham Ferryhill: This is was Panta asked earlier. Do we roleplay in our everyday lives?
[2010/08/15 20:03]  Abraham Ferryhill: Role isn't a dramatic enacment. Accordingly Morenos we have dozens of roles and we change them from situation to situation. Architypes are valid, you might be student but you also might be
spouse and you're most certanly someones children. Invoking one role makes other peoples to switch theirs. That means if there's a childish person there will be somebody present who will take adult role - a opposite role.
[2010/08/15 20:04]  Grimley Graves: psycobabble, bleh
[2010/08/15 20:04]  Tiny Elfin2: sounds like oakie
[2010/08/15 20:04]  Oak Hazelnut: hehe
[2010/08/15 20:04]  Oak Hazelnut: slaps tiny
[2010/08/15 20:04]  Abraham Ferryhill: The point here is that it's actually natural to have diffrent roles.
[2010/08/15 20:04]  Oak Hazelnut: now thats rp my slapping tiny
[2010/08/15 20:05]  Grimley Graves: slaps Oak
[2010/08/15 20:05]  Oak Hazelnut: lol
[2010/08/15 20:05]  Abraham Ferryhill: Emphaty means the capability to share another being's emotions and feelings. That means if someone is hurt you can stop and help him because you can imagine yourself in same situation.
[2010/08/15 20:05]  Tiny Elfin2 slides a slimez cowpie down oakies pants
[2010/08/15 20:05]  Oak Hazelnut: hehe
[2010/08/15 20:05]  Grimley Graves: nyuk nyuk nyuk... hey MOE
[2010/08/15 20:05]  Oak Hazelnut: loool
[2010/08/15 20:05]  Pantaiputih Korobase: well, in RL it might be less "extreme", but still, there is plaing a role in different situations, different environments, not that clear as in a "game", but still some deviations form the real person behind may be
[2010/08/15 20:06]  Abraham Ferryhill: Gamism needs a bit dramatic roles I suppose?
[2010/08/15 20:06]  Grimley Graves: but in this discussion it's about acting
[2010/08/15 20:06]  Oak Hazelnut: agreed
[2010/08/15 20:06]  Grimley Graves: something completely beyond your normal life
[2010/08/15 20:06]  Pantaiputih Korobase: fo rme, nothing is completely behins the normnal life, otherwise, you could not do it
[2010/08/15 20:07]  Pantaiputih Korobase: so, it is in you already
[2010/08/15 20:07]  Pantaiputih Korobase: oooo typos
[2010/08/15 20:07]  Oak Hazelnut: true pants
[2010/08/15 20:07]  Abraham Ferryhill: What do you know about roleplaying that's used in therapy?
[2010/08/15 20:07]  Oak Hazelnut: there are many aspects to us all
[2010/08/15 20:07]  Pantaiputih Korobase: you can not escape your mind, you can learn, go forward, but there still are limits (human kind)
[2010/08/15 20:07]  Grimley Graves: taking the role of leader, or sympathiser is basic, taking the role of a monster or soldier is RP
[2010/08/15 20:08]  Oak Hazelnut: not true
[2010/08/15 20:08]  Pantaiputih Korobase: think, a monster is easier than a responsible leader...........
[2010/08/15 20:08]  Oak Hazelnut: yuo can take role of budhest monk and rp
[2010/08/15 20:08]  Abraham Ferryhill: I was mafia boss once :)
[2010/08/15 20:08]  Oak Hazelnut: lol
[2010/08/15 20:08]  Pantaiputih Korobase: lol, Ab
[2010/08/15 20:08]  Oak Hazelnut: i was custard pie
[2010/08/15 20:08]  Pantaiputih Korobase: hahaha
[2010/08/15 20:09]  Pantaiputih Korobase: I did not find the banana RP game yet, but if I will............................. be cautios!
[2010/08/15 20:09]  Tiny Elfin2: still are
[2010/08/15 20:09]  Abraham Ferryhill: What's interesting in roleplaying and live roleplaying is that same methods are used in real life therapy.
[2010/08/15 20:09]  Grimley Graves: LOL
[2010/08/15 20:09]  Abraham Ferryhill: Ever watched Frasier?
[2010/08/15 20:09]  Grimley Graves: wb Tiny
[2010/08/15 20:09]  Abraham Ferryhill: wb Tiny
[2010/08/15 20:09]  Oak Hazelnut: no
[2010/08/15 20:10]  Abraham Ferryhill: LARP actually shares even debriefing with psychology.
[2010/08/15 20:10]  Abraham Ferryhill: It's considered part of the after game.
[2010/08/15 20:10]  Oak Hazelnut: ok
[2010/08/15 20:11]  Abraham Ferryhill: Debriefing is something that's used to defuse traumatic situations.
[2010/08/15 20:11]  Grimley Graves: we use alcohol for that LOL
[2010/08/15 20:11]  Oak Hazelnut: lol
[2010/08/15 20:11]  Dawn Harbour is Online
[2010/08/15 20:11]  Pantaiputih Korobase: pffff
[2010/08/15 20:12]  Abraham Ferryhill: We use that too a lot so it's no news.
[2010/08/15 20:12]  Grimley Graves: zombies cant spell
[2010/08/15 20:12]  Oak Hazelnut: lol
[2010/08/15 20:12]  Abraham Ferryhill: Live action is a bastard son of psychodrama ;)
[2010/08/15 20:12]  Grimley Graves: there is always a lot of psyco-babble about how RP helps or hurts people, but to me it's just fun... an escape from RL
[2010/08/15 20:13]  Oak Hazelnut: yep
[2010/08/15 20:13]  Abraham Ferryhill: There would be a picture in the wall if you could see it. A Frasier talking to empty chair. That's same method that we use in fun situations.
[2010/08/15 20:13]  Oak Hazelnut: thats why were here
[2010/08/15 20:13]  Pantaiputih Korobase: biggest prob with psychology in RL might be that there is always an "interpreter" whi thinkg is right (and may be not)
[2010/08/15 20:14]  Abraham Ferryhill: Well, the point I was making is safety issues which I'm about to talk about next.
[2010/08/15 20:14]  Grimley Graves: yeah, I have a real problem with psychologists
[2010/08/15 20:14]  Pantaiputih Korobase: :-) Girms
[2010/08/15 20:14]  Oak Hazelnut: munches acorn

[2010/08/15 20:14]  Oak Hazelnut: lol
[2010/08/15 20:14]  Abraham Ferryhill: lol
[2010/08/15 20:15]  Abraham Ferryhill: Anyway there has been critcism against roleplaying and it's only fair to actually point out that there's nothing to be ashamed of.
[2010/08/15 20:16]  Oak Hazelnut: of course not but like everything people have different tastes etc , just dont force it on others thats simple
[2010/08/15 20:16]  Pantaiputih Korobase: signed
[2010/08/15 20:16]  Abraham Ferryhill: I think that's most important safety rule there is.
[2010/08/15 20:16]  Grimley Graves: it's never forced, thats what seperates us from a cult :)
[2010/08/15 20:16]  Oak Hazelnut: of course
[2010/08/15 20:16]  Oak Hazelnut: its choie

[2010/08/15 20:18]  Abraham Ferryhill: Accidents can happen without anybody "getting lost". So what things are importat to you? What things we should consider so that everyone would have good experience on roleplaying?
[2010/08/15 20:18]  Oak Hazelnut: yep
[2010/08/15 20:19]  Abraham Ferryhill: What say you?

[2010/08/15 20:21]  Abraham Ferryhill: Tiny either you approach game master/storyteller/who's in charge and let him negotiate it.
[2010/08/15 20:21]  Abraham Ferryhill: Or you contact your victim and consent about the theft.
[2010/08/15 20:21]  Grimley Graves: but consent isn't always in the storyline
[2010/08/15 20:21]  Tiny Elfin2: if bz stealing zour acorns zoud starve to death (rp of course) id do it
[2010/08/15 20:21]  Oak Hazelnut: lool

[2010/08/15 20:22]  Pantaiputih Korobase: whyt*
[2010/08/15 20:22]  Abraham Ferryhill: I do think people do agree on some things when they enter rpg area. Like that they might get burn on dragon fire if they go to it's cave ;)
[2010/08/15 20:23]  Tiny Elfin2: thats whz i build dragon traps into mz buildings
[2010/08/15 20:23]  Pantaiputih Korobase: aaa now I have the thai keybaord again too
[2010/08/15 20:23]  Grimley Graves: and how they deal is based on their characters, some attack, some seek revenge, some turn the other cheek, etc
[2010/08/15 20:23]  Oak Hazelnut: yep
[2010/08/15 20:23]  Abraham Ferryhill: So we have some basic things everyone should agree on before roleplaying can begin.
[2010/08/15 20:24]  Tiny Elfin2: having fun is high on mz list
[2010/08/15 20:24]  Grimley Graves: yeah, thats why we have a basic set of rules
[2010/08/15 20:24]  Oak Hazelnut: yep
[2010/08/15 20:24]  Grimley Graves: sorry, guidelines...
[2010/08/15 20:24]  Pantaiputih Korobase: recommendations, hhahaha
[2010/08/15 20:24]  Grimley Graves: how combat works, how magic works etc
[2010/08/15 20:24]  Pantaiputih Korobase: to make it even weaker
[2010/08/15 20:24]  Abraham Ferryhill: Ok, what about rules considering talking?
[2010/08/15 20:25]  Abraham Ferryhill: Because most drama begins there and not the actual combat.
[2010/08/15 20:25]  Grimley Graves: chat should always be in character, out of character should be in IM's
[2010/08/15 20:25]  Abraham Ferryhill: yes
[2010/08/15 20:25]  Pantaiputih Korobase: drama can even start by looking into a bad temperd face (words not needed)
[2010/08/15 20:26]  Abraham Ferryhill: yes, that's a bit harder here though
[2010/08/15 20:26]  Pantaiputih Korobase: lol, ydes
[2010/08/15 20:26]  Abraham Ferryhill: Everything you say in open chat is regarded in character. That means it's paramout to keep In character and out of character discussion seperate.
[2010/08/15 20:26]  Pantaiputih Korobase: can I have a metacharacter window?
[2010/08/15 20:26]  Oak Hazelnut: yep
[2010/08/15 20:26]  Grimley Graves: it's hard for some to get used to tho
[2010/08/15 20:27]  Abraham Ferryhill: few things that helps:
[2010/08/15 20:27]  Abraham Ferryhill: -Most people look like their character. They don't come to LARP in their blue jeans!
-Have diffrent name to your character than what's your avatar name.
[2010/08/15 20:27]  Abraham Ferryhill: -In SL and OL you should use repeater and possibly floating text announcing your character name.
Repeater turns your text to "Character name: xxxxxx" format making it impossible to mix with your OL persona.
[2010/08/15 20:28]  Grimley Graves: thats the next order of business, what should a RP hud have?
[2010/08/15 20:28]  Abraham Ferryhill: Well I have repater titler ready already so I don't think I don't need anything else...
[2010/08/15 20:29]  Grimley Graves: I've seen so many huds that have floating text above players heads announcing all stats, strengths, weaknesses, hit points, class
[2010/08/15 20:29]  Grimley Graves: it gets annoying
[2010/08/15 20:29]  Pantaiputih Korobase: boring even may be
[2010/08/15 20:29]  Abraham Ferryhill: yes, and those things don't actually help you to get into role
[2010/08/15 20:30]  Pantaiputih Korobase: no magic :-))
[2010/08/15 20:30]  Grimley Graves: four lines of text above each avs head lol
[2010/08/15 20:30]  Abraham Ferryhill: Because most things happen inside your head.
[2010/08/15 20:30]  Pantaiputih Korobase: and I am short sigthed
[2010/08/15 20:30]  Tiny Elfin2: im against huds that show everzone zour stats
[2010/08/15 20:30]  Grimley Graves: in my opinion a simple health bar is all that should be displayed to other players
[2010/08/15 20:30]  Tiny Elfin2: i wouldnt even have that
[2010/08/15 20:30]  Abraham Ferryhill: I think most important thing is you to have note about your character
[2010/08/15 20:30]  Grimley Graves: agreed tiny
[2010/08/15 20:31]  Abraham Ferryhill: Name, occupation...
[2010/08/15 20:31]  Grimley Graves: everything else can be in a floating window viewable to you only
[2010/08/15 20:31]  Tiny Elfin2: i did one for a starwars charctor i used
[2010/08/15 20:31]  Abraham Ferryhill: that's great tiny
[2010/08/15 20:32]  Pantaiputih Korobase: brb
[2010/08/15 20:32]  Pantaiputih Korobase: RL
[2010/08/15 20:32]  Abraham Ferryhill: I would show some of my character if inventory would work :P
[2010/08/15 20:32]  Oak Hazelnut: hehe

[2010/08/15 20:35]  Grimley Graves: we're all air sitting
[2010/08/15 20:39]  Tiny Elfin2: i wrote that at 828 and reloged
[2010/08/15 20:39]  Grimley Graves: you mean for RP?
[2010/08/15 20:39]  Tiny Elfin2: noooo
[2010/08/15 20:40]  Tiny Elfin2: [12:39] Tiny Elfin2: again it logged me out at 8.28
[2010/08/15 20:40]  Tiny Elfin2: this line
[2010/08/15 20:40]  Abraham Ferryhill: ok
[2010/08/15 20:40]  Oak Hazelnut: hehe
[2010/08/15 20:40]  Tiny Elfin2: i wrote it at 8.28
[2010/08/15 20:40]  Abraham Ferryhill: I'm back
[2010/08/15 20:40]  Oak Hazelnut: lool nice cloud ab
[2010/08/15 20:40]  Grimley Graves: chat lag could lead to some interesting RP LOL
[2010/08/15 20:40]  Tiny Elfin2: wb abraham
[2010/08/15 20:40]  Abraham Ferryhill: Had to dump cache
[2010/08/15 20:40]  Pantaiputih Korobase: actually, there are so many factors influencing VWs like you ISP, your hardware, their serveers, it is hard tro tell what goes right and wha goes wrong
[2010/08/15 20:40]  Tiny Elfin2: zour also a cloud
[2010/08/15 20:40]  Pantaiputih Korobase: wb Ab
[2010/08/15 20:40]  Grimley Graves: yep, true Pant
[2010/08/15 20:41]  Dawn Harbour is Offline
[2010/08/15 20:41]  Pantaiputih Korobase: we all see the world differently :-)))))))))))))9
[2010/08/15 20:41]  Abraham Ferryhill: I was just going to ask what we would need to have roleplaying in OL?
[2010/08/15 20:41]  Tiny Elfin2: swords
[2010/08/15 20:41]  Pantaiputih Korobase: a 16 core chip
[2010/08/15 20:41]  Grimley Graves: 1 a good story /quest
[2010/08/15 20:41]  Abraham Ferryhill: You can have a load of swords from that boat :)
[2010/08/15 20:41]  Tiny Elfin2: a dependable data storage server
[2010/08/15 20:41]  Grimley Graves: 2 a good combat and magic system
[2010/08/15 20:42]  Dawn Harbour is Online
[2010/08/15 20:42]  Grimley Graves: 3 a decent set of guidelines
[2010/08/15 20:42]  Abraham Ferryhill: I think I was going strong untill I started to manipulate inventory. Chat works most of the time. Of course there's lag.
[2010/08/15 20:42]  Abraham Ferryhill: But I think I'll elect Grims idea.
[2010/08/15 20:42]  Abraham Ferryhill: For roleplay you'll need a story.
[2010/08/15 20:42]  Abraham Ferryhill: Everything else (like working gird) is a bonus.
[2010/08/15 20:43]  Abraham Ferryhill: And fact is roleplaying is based on text in any SL like enviroment.
[2010/08/15 20:43]  Tiny Elfin2: well not onlz combat and majic, dont forget someone serves beer down at the tavern
[2010/08/15 20:43]  Pantaiputih Korobase: and acorns
[2010/08/15 20:43]  Grimley Graves: guidelines everyone agrees on is second in importance
[2010/08/15 20:43]  Pantaiputih Korobase: roasted
[2010/08/15 20:43]  Pantaiputih Korobase: .-)))
[2010/08/15 20:44]  Grimley Graves: a combat hud would be nice but is not as needed as the others
[2010/08/15 20:44]  Tiny Elfin2 introduces oakies pants to another slimie cowpatie
[2010/08/15 20:44]  Abraham Ferryhill: One thing is missing here.
[2010/08/15 20:44]  Pantaiputih Korobase: hahah
[2010/08/15 20:44]  Abraham Ferryhill: The most important thing beside the story.
[2010/08/15 20:44]  Abraham Ferryhill: The people.

[2010/08/15 20:45]  Pantaiputih Korobase: well, we have experience to bring people from other grids to OL .-)
[2010/08/15 20:45]  Grimley Graves: thats true
[2010/08/15 20:45]  Abraham Ferryhill: Now there's quite many styles to actually roleplay here. We can discuss lessos learned in SL later.
[2010/08/15 20:45]  Oak Hazelnut: loool
[2010/08/15 20:45]  Abraham Ferryhill: You can have roleplay with just few people.
[2010/08/15 20:45]  Oak Hazelnut: lessonss ooh so many
[2010/08/15 20:45]  Grimley Graves: there are also wasy of doing solo quests
[2010/08/15 20:45]  Abraham Ferryhill: But they need to be same place at same time.
[2010/08/15 20:46]  Oak Hazelnut: pinches tint
[2010/08/15 20:46]  Abraham Ferryhill: Solo like in what terms?
[2010/08/15 20:46]  Oak Hazelnut: tiny
[2010/08/15 20:46]  Grimley Graves: well, treasure hunts, puzzle quests, etc...
[2010/08/15 20:46]  Tiny Elfin2 watches her tinz spider climb up oakies leg
[2010/08/15 20:46]  Grimley Graves: not so heavy on the RP but can be themed
[2010/08/15 20:46]  Oak Hazelnut: scream
[2010/08/15 20:46]  Abraham Ferryhill: yes, and thats why I'm going to keep some tutorials here.
[2010/08/15 20:47]  Abraham Ferryhill: Small adventures for small group.
[2010/08/15 20:47]  Grimley Graves: I have some ideas on solo quests
[2010/08/15 20:47]  Tiny Elfin2 softlz hums to her spider as it continues its journez
[2010/08/15 20:47]  Abraham Ferryhill: It's close to british LRP with one gamemaster and players. The gamemaster leads the group from place to place and plays the Non player character roles.
[2010/08/15 20:47]  Grimley Graves: I've seen decent NPC scripts for monsters
[2010/08/15 20:48]  Abraham Ferryhill: It's a bit railroaded application but easy.
[2010/08/15 20:48]  Abraham Ferryhill: Granted NPC scripts could be handy.
[2010/08/15 20:48]  Grimley Graves: we'll have to talk to Firebird about those
[2010/08/15 20:48]  Pantaiputih Korobase: aaah Firebird can do those?
[2010/08/15 20:49]  Abraham Ferryhill: Well, there's limit of programming always.
[2010/08/15 20:49]  Grimley Graves: but they all have to interact with the hud, if any
[2010/08/15 20:49]  Abraham Ferryhill: Easiest way is to have one person who plays all the extra roles.
[2010/08/15 20:49]  Grimley Graves: true, but changing avs is a pain
[2010/08/15 20:50]  Abraham Ferryhill: I haven't had too much problem but It can be in this enviroment.
[2010/08/15 20:50]  Abraham Ferryhill: So basically I'm suggesting to have really tiny events with less job.
[2010/08/15 20:50]  Grimley Graves: another important thing is "no fly"
[2010/08/15 20:50]  Abraham Ferryhill: we're not supermen
[2010/08/15 20:51]  Abraham Ferryhill: When we have working roleplaying here we can have gatherings as open roleplaying events.
[2010/08/15 20:51]  Abraham Ferryhill: Then*
[2010/08/15 20:51]  Grimley Graves: unless you are riding a dragon you should be landlocked :)
[2010/08/15 20:51]  Abraham Ferryhill: I'm planning to keep tavern evenings here ;)
[2010/08/15 20:52]  Pantaiputih Korobase: may be I missed it, but what would be the gerenal RP topic you want to introduce to OL, ABraham?
[2010/08/15 20:52]  Grimley Graves: or your character has the fly ability
[2010/08/15 20:52]  Abraham Ferryhill: Depends what sense you mean that Panta?
[2010/08/15 20:52]  Pantaiputih Korobase: general*
[2010/08/15 20:52]  Abraham Ferryhill: Fly spell? ;)
[2010/08/15 20:52]  Pantaiputih Korobase: lol
[2010/08/15 20:52]  Abraham Ferryhill: Well generally we'll be doing same things than in SL. Without drama I hope? ;)
[2010/08/15 20:53]  Abraham Ferryhill: But I would say that small guests for few people would be best for starters.
[2010/08/15 20:53]  Grimley Graves: having the ability to have an item that would allow someone to fly in a no fly zone would be really useful
[2010/08/15 20:53]  Pantaiputih Korobase: drama is everywhere I guess :-)
[2010/08/15 20:53]  Pantaiputih Korobase: stilll
[2010/08/15 20:53]  Grimley Graves: are you talking about genre Panta?
[2010/08/15 20:53]  Pantaiputih Korobase: some might be attracted by meidivial worlds, others by Sci Fi world, others again by anthing else
[2010/08/15 20:53]  Pantaiputih Korobase: yep
[2010/08/15 20:54]  Grimley Graves: ah, it can be almost anything
[2010/08/15 20:54]  Abraham Ferryhill: Last year Lord of The rings Online RPG was awarded as having most welcoming comminity.
[2010/08/15 20:54]  Abraham Ferryhill: I asked my friend about it and he told most of players are adult.
[2010/08/15 20:54]  Pantaiputih Korobase: as we are no tatlking about RP in gerenal anymore but on this grid, I woul dlike to know Abs ideas
[2010/08/15 20:54]  Abraham Ferryhill: That's PG game ;)
[2010/08/15 20:54]  Pantaiputih Korobase: omg, my fingers............
[2010/08/15 20:55]  Abraham Ferryhill: Well elves are one major thing here but I think I'm past thinking roleplaying as genre to genre. Medieval fantasy would be thing here wheres SL has large amount of scifi.
[2010/08/15 20:55]  Pantaiputih Korobase: btw, how to do RP on a grid with something like 10 concurrent users?
[2010/08/15 20:56]  Abraham Ferryhill: But most important thing is have a warm community.
[2010/08/15 20:56]  Oak Hazelnut: mm
[2010/08/15 20:56]  Abraham Ferryhill: 10 is well enough. Our RL group had 4 people in their first LARP.
[2010/08/15 20:56]  Grimley Graves: it's all in how you write the story
[2010/08/15 20:56]  Pantaiputih Korobase: well, we are warm community even wo RP
[2010/08/15 20:56]  Oak Hazelnut: yep we are
[2010/08/15 20:56]  Grimley Graves: and we can tailor the genre to the regions
[2010/08/15 20:56]  Abraham Ferryhill: Yes we are and now we're thinking about adding content here.
[2010/08/15 20:56]  Pantaiputih Korobase: not objecting RP by that
[2010/08/15 20:57]  Pantaiputih Korobase: yes, Ab, got that
[2010/08/15 20:57]  Abraham Ferryhill: Well, I think it like this. In OL what you see is what you get.
[2010/08/15 20:57]  Abraham Ferryhill: Having props like this isn't possible in real life.
[2010/08/15 20:57]  Pantaiputih Korobase: if you see it , hahahaha
[2010/08/15 20:57]  Grimley Graves: lol
[2010/08/15 20:57]  Abraham Ferryhill: It's not possible in IRC roleplaying, and it is left on your imigination in table top roleplaying games.
[2010/08/15 20:58]  Abraham Ferryhill: So strong feel of being there is definitely plus side of OL.
[2010/08/15 20:58]  Grimley Graves: yes
[2010/08/15 20:58]  Abraham Ferryhill: So virtual reality gaming like this is actually not future but today.
[2010/08/15 20:59]  Abraham Ferryhill: And that's why I have been migrating our organization here.
[2010/08/15 20:59]  Abraham Ferryhill: This place we're setting here was pencil drawing in our source material.
[2010/08/15 20:59]  Abraham Ferryhill: Now it's actually here.
[2010/08/15 20:59]  Pantaiputih Korobase: as you can set standards and levels, rules etc by yourself - this is an advantage of VWs
[2010/08/15 21:00]  Pantaiputih Korobase: that are user created

[2010/08/15 21:02]  Grimley Graves: still there Oak?
[2010/08/15 21:03]  Grimley Graves: wb abe
[2010/08/15 21:03]  Abraham Ferryhill: Great, it's working.
[2010/08/15 21:03]  Pantaiputih Korobase is Online
[2010/08/15 21:04]  Abraham Ferryhill: I was just answerin Panta when this thing crashed on me.
[2010/08/15 21:04]  Grimley Graves: Pants had to go :/
[2010/08/15 21:04]  Abraham Ferryhill: I think he said what's most important. Respect.
[2010/08/15 21:05]  Oak Hazelnut: munch
[2010/08/15 21:05]  Grimley Graves: ah, you are still here
[2010/08/15 21:05]  Oak Hazelnut: yep sorry was doing something on lions den
[2010/08/15 21:06]  Oak Hazelnut: was only away for few mins lol
[2010/08/15 21:06]  Abraham Ferryhill: You can be in two places at once?
[2010/08/15 21:06]  Grimley Graves: with an alt yeah
[2010/08/15 21:06]  Oak Hazelnut: hehe
[2010/08/15 21:06]  Oak Hazelnut: your both see tomorrow
[2010/08/15 21:06]  Oak Hazelnut: lool
[2010/08/15 21:06]  Abraham Ferryhill: kk
[2010/08/15 21:06]  Maggie Moonbeam is Offline
[2010/08/15 21:07]  Abraham Ferryhill: Anyway there is time issue on any events
[2010/08/15 21:07]  Abraham Ferryhill: No matter how hard I try to solve it seems somebody has to take early morning shift :)(
[2010/08/15 21:07]  Grimley Graves: yeah, stupid time zones
[2010/08/15 21:07]  Oak Hazelnut: yep
[2010/08/15 21:07]  Abraham Ferryhill: But there's not much pacific people here so europe-american side of globe would be priority.

[2010/08/15 21:07]  Grimley Graves: weekends will be best for group events
[2010/08/15 21:08]  Oak Hazelnut: yes saturdays
[2010/08/15 21:08]  Abraham Ferryhill: Shai gave idea of about 6pm
[2010/08/15 21:08]  Abraham Ferryhill: before VL
[2010/08/15 21:08]  Grimley Graves: and i'm a big supporter of solo quests, so there is something to do whenever you're here
[2010/08/15 21:08]  Oak Hazelnut: yes
[2010/08/15 21:09]  Abraham Ferryhill: I can't be on every saturday so sunday might be one possibility too
[2010/08/15 21:09]  Abraham Ferryhill: But I might start like... next sunday with tutorial quest.
[2010/08/15 21:09]  Grimley Graves: yeah, any time people dont have to get up the next day
[2010/08/15 21:09]  Oak Hazelnut: great idea
[2010/08/15 21:10]  Abraham Ferryhill: We could talk things, make characters, even find some costumes and have small adventure.
[2010/08/15 21:10]  Grimley Graves: nice, gotta start somewhere
[2010/08/15 21:11]  Abraham Ferryhill: Yes, and prefer somebody else does that too :)
[2010/08/15 21:11]  Oak Hazelnut: scream
[2010/08/15 21:11]  Oak Hazelnut: oops sorry
[2010/08/15 21:11]  Abraham Ferryhill: So it should be priority to recruit people who would actually have ideas and time for this kind of stuff.
[2010/08/15 21:12]  Abraham Ferryhill: I can't be up in american times and we really could use somebody to keep tutorials to them too.
[2010/08/15 21:12]  Abraham Ferryhill: Is there any elf group members who could do this?
[2010/08/15 21:12]  Grimley Graves: well, I'm in the US
[2010/08/15 21:12]  Oak Hazelnut: yes
[2010/08/15 21:12]  Oak Hazelnut: many
[2010/08/15 21:13]  Grimley Graves: I could help out on the US time zones
[2010/08/15 21:13]  Abraham Ferryhill: Yes even Surreal told me he could help :)
[2010/08/15 21:13]  Grimley Graves: but I'm more of a nuts-n-blots guy, not so good on the story side
[2010/08/15 21:13]  Abraham Ferryhill: Well the one lessons learned in SL is that don't overdo things.
[2010/08/15 21:14]  Oak Hazelnut: hehe
[2010/08/15 21:14]  Grimley Graves: yep
[2010/08/15 21:14]  Abraham Ferryhill: Adventures do need to be simple.
[2010/08/15 21:14]  Abraham Ferryhill: Goblin steals the boot (actually that's next adventure starting point)
[2010/08/15 21:14]  Abraham Ferryhill: You don't have left boot now. What do you do?

Abraham (Abe) is holding a meeting on 14th August to start the ball rolling for anyone who may like to put their feet in the shoes of a 'character'.

This thread is to discuss that meeting and what went on.

I created the Roleplaying category in the forums so that anything relating to roleplaying can be discussed. Remember, the public can see this forum - only members can contribute - but the world can read it.

So whether it's the language of roleplaying, the rules of engagement, magic system, fighting techniques, HUDs and other accoutrement, or discussion of what outfits to where and where to get them - Create a thread and let's get talking.

Remember to get your group listed in OracL so they can be part of it.

Great list Digi. Thanks for this, and I'm sure the radio will be in demand.

Here are the URLs to the music streams in the Free OLG Radio that people can pick up on Danaus.

The radio is menu driven and stations can be changed by anyone on a parcel its located on (though the owner needs to rezz and initialize it before it can be used by the public).

The listing below is in the format the radio expects (Genre-Station Name and URL ) but you can easily extract the url for the media panel from the listing (its after the = sign in each line )

As Shai rightly points out stream urls come and go so if any of these dont work the station may not be broadcasting ( test by copying the url into a web browser window to see if the Shoutcast page for it displays)

I can start sharing:

Radio Rivendell (naturally ;)

It has several addresses and this one is what I use:

http://94.23.59.113:8003

http://somafm.com/ has some great streams. I tend to listen drone zone. For elves I recommend

Suburbs of goa.

"Desi-influenced Asian world beats" says the description.

Note you can get your favourite net radio steram addresses by opening the stream pls file to notepad.

:) Oak

I sort of get the feeling that OL has started down a different path to that begun by SL. It began with someone who felt that the community was of utmost importance.

I know that at times it's as if Sakai forgot us but it's usually because he's madly trying to implement something that makes life better for us. And he can't be inworld, writing posts AND doing the development we all seem to demand.

1) He always has the community in mind. He's aware that because we pull together, help each other and anyone who looks as if they need help, go out of our way to make newcomers welcome, and create amazing spaces for everyone to enjoy - we the community, are what make the grid and what will give it a future.

2) He's admitted publicly on more than one occasion that it's us putting our money into the project via buying land etc that provides the funds for the development of the project.

The presence of both of these awarenesses in our creator mean the likelihood of them being the foundational to the community and continuing into the future.

The other reason I have to think it will continue is because we the community will be providing the social basis and structure for whatever evolves. If we do it right, we set the tone for what follows.

Topic : How OL has enriched my life.

Right off the top, I would have to say, that OL has been the best Virtual World experience I have had, with  the exception of meeting my darling husband in the land of the hand. I call OL my home, and look forward to moving towards the vision that Sakai has for our community.

While I have not been here very long,  I have met and made many cherished friendships. Never in my life have I met so many special individuals in one place. I would like to publicly thank the many people who have been an incredible support to me over the past 6 months. I have felt the love, and even been filled with joy at those moments that a few have given me a lecture!.. lol

The community of OL has opened thier arms and welcomed me with such grace and sincerity, that I could not think of calling any other Virtual World, my home. If nothing else demonstrates this fact, it is my success in being a creator. My two years in SL, while it brought me my husband, were mostly filled with me seeking out things and activites that you would never catch me engaging in real life. Yes, I got pulled into the undertow, of darker desires, and almost got lost in it. Since my move to OL, I have climbed out of that pit of dispair, and back up where the air is fresh, the sunlight touches my soul. My mind and spirit have been edified with love, learning, and the opportunity from time to time, to give back all of the special gifts that the OL community has given to me.

The greatest joy, I have found here is the ability to create. Before coming to OL, I personally had not created more than a gift box, that Syrenia had given me about building. I found it interesting, but lacked the courage to really give it an honest try. Upon arrival, to OL, I rolled up my sleeves and claimed my half of our 45,000 prims, and decided that if gift boxes were just the start. To my suprise, I have found building to be exillerating. In 6 short months I have gotten to the point of taking on any challange I can think of, albiet, some are very rough builds... lol

The community has been incredibling supportive in my growth as a creator and a person. Never has the sun set on a day, that someone in some way has taught me something new, or has personally taken time to coach me on the finner techniques. The amount of templates, guides, and knowlege that has been shared with me, leaves me in awe, when I stop to think about it. You have set the bar high, and make want to strive to be a better resident !!!

Looking towards the future, I hope we will all pause from time to time and take a personal inventory. Ask ourselves, what have I given to this precious community today? Do I give when given the opportunity? Have I made it possible for yet one more person to feel the very special spirit that we have here in our VW home. I truly believe, that we only truly recieve by giving. Having said that I will tuck my soapbox away, and again thank all those who have made my OL experience what it is.

Like so many others 4 years ago i was created in second life this wonderfull brave new world which offered self expression and community spirit.

Over the years the grid grew , new technonolgy was added to make it more lifelike.

But this new world started to self destruct, but  no longer did the values of old matter,s owe decided to look for new world,we searched manynew worlds , metaverse, newworld,

then we came across openlife, at first it seemed very empty and sterile, but then imeet freyja, amazing elven lady ,who introuduced me to shai ,lion trista, grim, sakai , in fact everyone,it was then that i found the most amazing community just hidden under the clouds of the welcome isalnd.

After much discussion we decided openlife was the place for our group which currently stands at 2.103 members in sl,we will maintain the group in sl still as ol isnt for everyone, but openlife has such amazing community and spirit, we will stay here forever, we just pray that future improvements do not break the spirit which survives here, lets not make this anothersl everyone....

OL now has a Wiki listing of all currently implemented LSL functions.

If you'd like to discuss any issues relating to scripting in OL now we have the ScriptX engine, you're welcome to bring your thoughts here.

Let's all try to get info into the Wiki and make it a valuable OL resource.

One of the things we started here on the forums is a list of favourite music URLs that can be copied and pasted into the Media field of the About Land window. Just click on the ORACL Forum link in the Main Menu and you'll see the thread.

If you want to find them yourself though, you can go to the Shoutcast website, locate the genre you want, listen to the streams until you find one you like - check out the website for the streaming agency etc.

What I do is open the stream in itunes and then select it and Get Info. This provides you with the URL or IP (set of numbers which are the same thing). I usually copy this somewhere I can refer to it later if I need to just in case I want to change the stream at some time, and change it back again.

Again, once you have the URL or IP you can simply copy and paste it to the Media (Audio) field in About Land.
